Have your elevator speech ready but not memorized, be prepared with two firm-specific questions and one general question (ex: what interview question do you want candidates to ask?) watch a 2 minute clip of something that makes you laugh in the half hour preceding the interview to loosen up. Knock ‘em dead.

likesmarthelpful

That’s a good idea about watching a funny clip. Have to get rid of the nerves!

like

Have good lighting in FRONT of your face :) You got this!

like

Thanks! I’m doing it at home and don’t have a beautiful home office background so I’m going to use the blur filter with good lighting in front.

like

Have anything you might want to reference on the screen. You'll look more engaged than looking down at the table.

likesmart

Type out your questions and talking points and leave up on the screen so you can reference them without breaking eye contact on camera! This helped me so much.

likehelpful

Great idea thanks, I did this!

No pants needed

likefunny

Set up a zoom or other videoconference 30 min earlier to view lighting, your appearance, background, eye movements, practice, etc. Good Luck!

THANK YOU for all the tips!!! Got an offer 🙌🏽

like

No.

(Because I wore a dress lol)

funny

Make the background also look presentable. Clean in background with good lighting and no clutter. Also, don’t keep a pen in your hand if it’s within view. It increases likelihood of fidgeting which is distracting on zoom calls.

like

Speak slowly and clearly. Project a little bit more of your microphone isn’t a good one.

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate. I’m very nervous because the group with whom I’m interviewing works with life science/tech clients and the attorneys have strong science/tech backgrounds; and I do not. However, I am very, very interested in transitioning to this practice. And I reaaally want this job because it’s at my dream firm. How would you recommend preparing for the lateral interview?

I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

I am also in the advanced stages of some lead designer positions in other companies.

However I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.

What should be my reasons to accept or not accept the offer from booking?

Hey everyone - I could do with some advice. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I am having a hard time getting interview calls. I am trying to pivot from consulting to the industry and targeting project/program management roles. I have been doing this work for 7+ years now (total YOE 12 years) so certainly have the right skillset. I have tried a couple of referrals too but that didn’t help either. Any advice you guys could provide would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi all,

Also, if anyone is willing to look over my resume and give me tips on how to make it more presentable for recruiters in DA that would be very helpful. Thanks

Pivoting away from Sales: I’ve been in sales positions for 15 years, and I’m just exhausted by the role (disputing commissions, arguing about deals, all of it). I have a degree in marketing, but I am having a hard time landing interviews since I’ve never had a strictly marketing only role. Can anyone provide any advice, or has anyone successfully moved away from sales?
