Black women made the career switch from corporate America to entrepreneurship during Covid-19. While it appears entrepreneurship was deemed a necessity, Black women were the largest group of new business owners closely followed by Latina women. These businesses have high growth potential but why is access to finding still a barrier?

Hey OP, I see that a lot of people suggest seeing a neurologist or GP in case she’s having mini strokes. I’m a believer and I honestly think you should also see a priest/pastor about because that could spiritual. I’m not suggesting a full-blown exorcism but speaking with a priest/pastor is as valid as seeing a neurologist or GP.
I bet if you pick Joel Osteen as your pastor, he’d charge you a colossal amount of money.
As a volunteer EMT, I’m so proud that all of you recognized these signs of (potential) stroke. It sounds silly, but so many people don’t know these basic things to look for. Thank you for giving OP the encouragement to go to the ER immediately.
She needs to see a doctor asap.
yeah doctor likely followed by a neurologist ASAP
Thanks everyone. I called her GP to describe what we saw and ask for a referral to a neurologist, and the nurse on the line recommended that we go the ER instead of waiting for a referral. Now my Mom and Dad are both rolling their eyes and saying it’s no big deal and resisting the ER visit. I know it’s a hassle and we have family in town so of course they want to spend time with family rather than in a waiting room, but I feel like this is important. I will try to encourage her to go to the ER today but without support from my dad I don’t know that she will. Ugh. I’m trying not to panic.
This is progress, though. When my family member who survived an aneurysm rupture had delays like this in follow-up appointments related to the other aneurysms in her head, I used to tell her to try not to be frustrated because the reason dr X was so busy was because they drop everything for the emergency patients, which is the reason she’s alive. She had her emergency surgery the second she needed it and that might have meant another non-emergency person waited longer.
That said— you could ask the neurologist if they recommend a colleague. Or, to your point, try to continue to push for ER. I don’t have personal experience with the ER for stuff like this, so I’m not sure what the care is like. I just know I have never felt safer than when I’m the presence of our family’s neuro team.
She needs to see a doctor asap. Start with her GP/PCP, call and explain what is happening rather than waiting for an appointment. They could be mini strokes which can cause cumulative damage so it really needs to be addressed immediately.
Stop everything you’re doing right now in this very instant as I type this as soon as you read this get her to the ER

Sounds like stroke. ER ASAP.
Please let us know what you find out.
My dad passed away from a brain bleed a few months ago and we knew about it only a few months prior.
That time helped us start getting affairs in order (we didn’t know this would happen, but knowing the possibility gave us a push to write a will etc). Hopefully your stuff isn’t that serious
I’m so sorry, SE1. Aneurysms are in my family. 😔 I’m not sure what your dad’s circumstances were, but do make sure blood relatives get an MRA to screen for aneurysms. They are hereditary. A little bit more likely in women.
She needs to see a doctor sooner rather than later. It could mini strokes.
She needs to go to a doctor immediately. It sounds like she is having mini strokes.
Mini strokes = TIA = clots / strokes that pass very quickly.
ER. Neuro. Now.
If anything is worth a fight with your parents it's their lives. They'll get over the fight later irrespective of outcomes because of your motive for it.
Maybe absent seizures? I feel like this is obviously a neuro issue and if your GP is good you’ll get a referral right away.
Hope you figure out what is going on soon! I have a brain condition and had many brain procedures. I was told i may have seizures and have googled every possible seizure symptom. Well, when it finally happened it was the very obvious grand mal one.
Checking in on you, OP. Any luck?
Thank you for checking in! I posted a couple of updates above as a reply to my original update comment, if you’re curious.
Just saw this thread. I'm in a caregiving position as well, the one to push all the appointments for my father and mom's the one who's dismissive about his situation. I can understand how hard it is.
How are you doing OP? Have you been able to get in touch with the neurologist and get some answers since?
Yes, thank you for checking in. She got an EEG and an MRI and they were both clean, so the working diagnosis from the neurologist is that she is having absence seizures. We will continue to monitor and go back to the neurologist if the pattern changes at all, but for now he says we shouldn’t worry.
Mini strokes or seizures maybe? Go to the ER asap

Maybe an urgent care clinic instead of ER? If “emergency room” is sounding too alarmist for your dad going to a “clinic” might sound more palatable. Usually cheaper than ER visit too. Then you can have a professional tell you either it can wait or tell you to go to the ER.
Not sure if this helps but I had double vision for a week, got a referral from GP to neurologist (with a several months long wait). Went to GP again after a couple days as it got worse (managed to get upgraded to an “urgent” neurologist appointment, now in 6 weeks…). In the end went to ER (as suggested by a Dr friend), got an MRI that day, and was admitted for a week and immediate treatment. If there is actually an issue, the ER is pretty much the only way to get urgent diagnostics. Maybe use that to convince your dad. Then went for follow up with neurologist 1 week after discharge (turns out they do have earlier appointments…..)
As many have said— she needs to go to the dr immediately. I don’t know about all brain issues, just aneurysms, but they are no joke. Often there is no warning of a rupture. If she’s exhibiting signs of changed behavior (especially neuro related) consider yourselves incredibly lucky you have had a warning and can get her to the dr. Do not wait. I haven’t read all the comments— try to get to the best healthcare facility/best dr you can. There are big discrepancies in level of care, unfortunately, depending on where you go. Good luck OP. I really hope she gets in soon without waiting.
This happened to my Aunt! She had a mini strike. The EXACT symptoms your mom is having. I’m praying for your family.
