My partner, who’s a med-school student (M1), literally walked into our home office, looked at the slides I’ve been working on for the last week, laughed, and goes “really impacting the world with those coloured boxes that haven’t changed since last week” and walked away😓

Sounds like a toxic relationship. In all seriousness, comments like that will continue to get worse and worse. He thinks his career is important and yours isn’t. There will always that sense of superiority and it’ll bleed into every action and interaction you have.

Amazon 1 toxic assuming a "partner" med student has to be a man... Sad

like

That’s pretty good, but you gotta be quick with the replies. Something like “you know you’re paying as much for school this year as I made in my first year in consulting, it’s gonna take you more than 2 years of real work for every year of school (and residency) to catch up. By that time, I’ll be retired”.

To be fair to you, a med student hasn’t impacted the world either. Still plenty of time for them to have a mental breakdown and drop out

likefunnyuplifting

Yeah. They can choose to join McKinsey instead and help push opioids or increase kidney disease.

likefunnyuplifting

There are two common factors among nearly all med students and Doctors: 1) god complex 2) very little knowledge or appreciation of any topic outside of medicine

I’m under no illusions about our work but med students are completely insufferable lol. Just listen to the way many of them speak about nurses

Sounds like my SO, who is an exec in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Dinner goes like this: “The CDMO is totally botching the phase 3 clinical supply drug product. We have to rush to ship it out to 8 clinical sites. I have to fly out tomorrow morning at 5am to get it fixed.” Me: “My teams couldn’t figure out how to fit 3 key insights on a slide in less than 15 words per the request of the client. I have to edit the slide tonight.” SO stares at me then walks away.

lol bunch of sensitive single people in this thread I guess…partners can’t poke fun at each others’ professions?

Wow, bunch of insecure people on this thread lol. OP doesn’t seem bothered by the comment and it’s innocuous enough that it’s definitely overboard for people to start yelling about toxic relationships and breaking up. If it’s constant, then sure, but this is one instance. Egotistical people are everywhere, and especially here if y’all can’t take a joke about colored boxes and impact lol.

like

Can’t blame him/her for saying the truth… we make money, build/break companies with our “recommendations”, save jobs with some level of power to even take them away - I say, a lot of consultants are, let’s just say, capitalism personified. 😎

likeupliftingfunny

That’s really condescending from an SO and I would not put up with it

I laugh when all the med students try for dermatology residency really life changing…

Sounds like a jerk. The world needs more skills than those provided by doctors, and a good partner wouldn't put you down.

Who cares about impacting the world? I’m never going to make in impact and I’m 1000% satisfied with that.

Partner? Why not boyfriend or girlfriend or wife or husband? So much unnecessary ambiguity here. Anyway, that’s a pretty toxic jab.. might want to reassess the relationship
