My partner, who’s a med-school student (M1), literally walked into our home office, looked at the slides I’ve been working on for the last week, laughed, and goes “really impacting the world with those coloured boxes that haven’t changed since last week” and walked away😓

To be fair to you, a med student hasn’t impacted the world either. Still plenty of time for them to have a mental breakdown and drop out

likefunnyuplifting

Yeah. They can choose to join McKinsey instead and help push opioids or increase kidney disease.

likefunnyuplifting

Sounds like a toxic relationship. In all seriousness, comments like that will continue to get worse and worse. He thinks his career is important and yours isn’t. There will always that sense of superiority and it’ll bleed into every action and interaction you have.

Amazon 1 toxic assuming a "partner" med student has to be a man... Sad

There are two common factors among nearly all med students and Doctors:
1) god complex
2) very little knowledge or appreciation of any topic outside of medicine

I’m under no illusions about our work but med students are completely insufferable lol. Just listen to the way many of them speak about nurses

SO is a nurse and it’s pretty bad. Especially considered SO has saved lives and student has not

Sounds like my SO, who is an exec in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Dinner goes like this: “The CDMO is totally botching the phase 3 clinical supply drug product. We have to rush to ship it out to 8 clinical sites. I have to fly out tomorrow morning at 5am to get it fixed.”

Me: “My teams couldn’t figure out how to fit 3 key insights on a slide in less than 15 words per the request of the client. I have to edit the slide tonight.”

SO stares at me then walks away.

Wow, bunch of insecure people on this thread lol. OP doesn’t seem bothered by the comment and it’s innocuous enough that it’s definitely overboard for people to start yelling about toxic relationships and breaking up. If it’s constant, then sure, but this is one instance.

Egotistical people are everywhere, and especially here if y’all can’t take a joke about colored boxes and impact lol.

Can’t blame him/her for saying the truth… we make money, build/break companies with our “recommendations”, save jobs with some level of power to even take them away - I say, a lot of consultants are, let’s just say, capitalism personified. 😎

That’s really condescending from an SO and I would not put up with it

Sounds like a jerk. The world needs more skills than those provided by doctors, and a good partner wouldn't put you down.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

How can I handle this situation without making her mad but also not letting her step all over me?

I started a new job last monday; this is my first corporate job after college. My senior manager ( my manager’s manager) scheduled a 1:1 with me on Friday and she expects me to have questions.
What should ask? I'm already being trained by my peers, so I don't really understand the dynamic.

Can I still work as a telemarketer even though I have a noticeable accent? People don't say they can't understand me but they seem relieved when they get to talk to somebody else. My boss acts like I'm not very good at the job and I think it's because some customers think I am an "outsider," for lack of a better term. I just want to fit in.

Hi SpEd Teachers, is anyone else facing EXTREME staff shortages as a result of state funding? We are not able to meet my students' IEP requirements (not even close) due to not enough paraprofessionals and the district flat out refusing to hire more. I've lost 70+ hrs/week of para hours over the past few years and my students are really suffering. This leaves our district open to lawsuits, but the real problem is the state's education budget. What can we do?? This isn't going to fix itself.
