But in all seriousness if that's the case a lot of talent will leave especially if they are expecting the career progression that comes with strategy work
This was already known...unless you're an A3 or have an MBA, you odds of going from A2 to SA1 are non existent
I think this is terrible. A's consistently hold SA roles on projects (my mentee has done so essentially since starting). If you don't want to pay, fine, but at least give the title if it's been demonstrably earned.
Anyone that was a true S& hire and not a PwC convert should already know this
Pwc is pulling back on all promotions at all levels. Financial don't support it. They did too much catalyst hiring and it's not panning out.
I assume SA is equivalent of our consultants? If so, this is a huge disadvantage competitively. I mean, McK offers promoted to EM after three years for truly high performers... And associates are almost invariably promoted if not out
Legacy Booz operated on a three year model, with the third year as a "Senior Consultant" role. Similar to Bain, minus the cool secondment opportunities that many Bain folks receive.
Except for a two year spell where certain practices gave early promotions, setting an unfair expectation that it would remain. Keep in mind that McK/BCG give out early promotions on merit (which the firm, rightly or wrongly, benchmarks itself against) and that yes, in many cases, A's will outperform SA's by the end of their second year.
It is also optically bad for associates to retain the same title for a third year prior to business school - at least in the Booz world, they got a promo from Consultant to Senior Consultant and had a clear set of responsibilities that were distinct. In many cases, some C's could get SC six months early, or go to the post-MBA level six months early as well.
Why is this happening?
@BCG, yes, SA = C. It is a massive disadvantage all around. And there are many A's who have proven capable of running their own workstreams or even managing younger A's.
S& all hands call during the Q&A portion - partners have been communicating this for the past 4ish months
Any other relevant news? Stuck on client work today so I didn't attend.
Where was this communicated?
Wow that's the exact definition of layoffs. Smh 🤦♂️
Right so this is business as usual?
Other key takeaways are that CIPS is being split in two and partner exits will continue
And there are no layoffs but staff in poor performing industries are let go as needed 😂
