If you have the means to do it, treat this 6 months like a sabbatical. It could be a once in a lifetime chance for you to connect/reconnect with family and have amazing experiences. For health insurance, although it’s a tad expensive, there is always COBRA. As an SM with your experience, you could find a job within 1-3 months most likely and you could start lightly exploring your next move in early 2025.
Marketplace has some options that can be more affordable than cobra too. I'm doing this right now. Probably going to cover dec 2024 with cobra and then hop over to marketplace 2025 plan. The insurance at my new job doesn't kick in right away, have to work like 3 months.
Are you tax?
I was on the same boat, 8 years later and joined a new firm. I didn’t wanna take a break though because November and December are so slow and I wanted to get paid during those months… these are the best months in PA
I’ve done that a couple of times but took the summer off - better weather.
Missing a spring busy season in tax is kind of a tough call though.

What’s your specialty and location?
I left before I had another job lined up but I did get medical insurance lined up and planned my budget. It was a very toxic environment and I needed to leave to save my health. I am slowly looking for another position and there is opportunities around. Some pay more and some less but I am fine taking a pay cut to have a normal work environment. It was scary to leave at first but now I am so glad I did!
I’m in a similar situation. Left my job due to a very toxic work environment affecting my health. Long story short, I was doing the work of a director/controller for a senior accountant salary. Needless to say, it added great experience to my resume. But that experience made me realize I don’t want to move up the ladder and ruin my health again. I’ve been interviewing for senior accountant roles and my salary requirements are in alignment, but am getting a lot of rejections despite getting to the final rounds of interviews and positive feedback. I’m starting to think I’m over qualified, or seen as having a lack of ambition. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but can’t help thinking I’m looked down upon for not wanting to advance in my career.
