I have been fighting against a lifelong workaholic streak I’ve had. If you’ve ever struggled to relax during free time or feel best when you are putting my fires out, you may be shocked to learn that your brain may actually have developed a physical addiction to the adrenaline of being forced to perform. My therapist mentioned this might happen and I certainly have felt it. You can make it through the withdrawals! This is a great piece on it :

Fly Cathay Pacific (CX) using AA miles. Directs out of EWR and JFK. Business class and first both open up very close to departure. Best way to check inventory is with a JAL FF account (just set one up on their website), otherwise you need to call an agent with AA to have them look
Definitely don’t book with BA. Book with AA but since you can’t see CX availability on aa.com you have to use the JAL or BA web sites to find availability released to partners by CX. The trouble with BA is that its web site often shows phantom availability which is why BCG1 suggested JL.
If you don’t see what you want, keep checking. If CX doesn’t sell business or first seats, they will open them to partners as it gets closer to departure. These seats are dependent on sales and their yield management software, and will not be opened 330 days out.
Do I look like a travel agent? Call Amex or AA or UA and let me sleep - it's Sunday night. Cheers
Accumulate points and then use them!!!! Make sure you book from your local airport so that it’s a nonstop flight!!!!!!!!
But I need to involve myself in some useless way right? I'm a senior - that's what we do, else they'll know that they only really need staffs and managers to run projects!
Chase converts to United, sounds like that's your best bet.
Of the carriers that fly there nonstop from the US, you’re likely best off on Cathay Pacific, which is in OneWorld alliance with AA.
Book your united flight on chase, that way it’s a “cash” ticket, then gpu to get first class.
OP is getting spoon-fed! I hope you’re not a BA or an Associate because that’s just embarrassing.
Cathay is the shit. I have flown them with AA points a few times
how are delta plat with 50k?
Not suggesting that the OP wait until close-in, but wanted to let the OP know that more seats open up close to departure in case he/she sees no J or F inventory. Few consultants that I know plan vacations a full year out
Definitely Cathy first/biz out of Ewr/jfk
@OP: BA shows availability, but you need to look at the AA award chart to see how many AA miles the ticket will be. Believe that AA should be around 140K RT
50k not getting you to Hong Kong using AA
Op - without your starting point, we can’t help
Starting is either Newark or JFK. Also have platinum on Delta
Yeah, and do you have enough points with either of them to book the flights?
Have 50k miles on United and 50k on Delta. And 120k points on chase
If you don't, get one of the AA or United credit cards with a sign up bonus to put you over the top.
