Too long. I’ve been putting my kids to bed for 7 years so far. When will this end?!?!?
Depends on how much we’ve worn him out with running around/playing after school. With the wearing out - 20 mins tops (includes teeth brushing, pajamas, chit chatting before he falls asleep). If not worn out, 1+ hour (negotiations, teeth brushing, pajamas, reading the same story 5 times, chit chatting, saying good night 473957384 times).
And in some cases, “I forgot [insert some random toy] and need it to go to sleep.” So we march to the living room. Divert off to the kitchen for a shot of milk or water. Attract dirty stare from wife. And walk very slowly back to his bedroom.
Wow, this makes me feel better. We start, then struggle from about 8-9:30 too with 2 in bunk beds. I though we were just really bad at it, but seems not uncommon.
We start at 8.. around 9.30 by the time both boys get to sleep.. 🤦♂️
I have a 20 min nap in the middle which drives my wife crazy! 😄
Thank you, certainly have a lot to learn from those who get it done in < 1 hr, but feeling less useless reading these responses. Tonight was especially rough, probably took 2.5 hrs AFTER everyone was in pajamas and with teeth brushed.
Sorry to hear that. We’ve had nights like that where we’re certain we’re being punk’d
About an hour from bath time to lights out
Bath around 8, in bed by 8:30ish, have to lay down with kids to get them down so maybe 9 by the time they’re asleep. Typically they’re down and not back up unless other problem arises. We have two kids, separate rooms so takes both of us
It's a never ending war. Good luck, soldier!
I’m at 45 minutes on a bath night. 30 minutes otherwise. But apparently we take a much different approach than most of the people here in that we don’t make our kids go to sleep they just need to stay in their rooms and when they’re tired enough for bed will do one last tuck in, which is usually about 30 minutes after we have left the room
We have the hatch. It helped us briefly with the getting ready for bed part, but have had no success getting my older to sleep or having stay in bed in the morning until it’s time. Do you use a reward system? If so, any tips you can share?
5 and 7 here. Bath/showers start by 6.45 and they're in bed (but negotiating) by 7.30.
20 to 25min...
Brushing teeth, bed time books...
But when they actually fall asleep is different each day.
30 minutes - 1 hr.
I obviously have to read, brush teeth, do vitamins, have a tickle party, kiss and hug, recite a nursery rhyme, say see you later alligator 4 times, turn on white noise machines, tuck them in, give hugs again, and shut the door.
Bath and bed time takes about 45 mins for 3 yr old
Have 7,5,3,2. Bedtime for older two takes 30-45 min. Bedtime for younger two takes 5-10 min max. We never had time to spend on the younger ones so they’ve never known more than a quick book and good night.
5-10mins??? Do you just hose your kids down and throw them in sleeping bags??
About 25 mins for our 5 year old. Goes to bed between 6:30 and 7pm
Very much a believer in needing adult time in the evenings. Plus 5 kids aged 5 should ideally be getting 10-11 hours of sleep. We have older kids too (teenagers) who go to bed at about 9-9:30pm on weeknights.
