These could be the same people who ask on fishbowl whether they should take that higher-up job that they aren't qualified for but got lucky in the interview and everyone on fishbowl goes 'DO IT!'
Terrible performance that was coupled with a terrible, entitled attitude.
Put them on a performance improvement plan. Asked them to make headway and track it. Supposed to meet in 2 weeks. Doesn’t schedule a follow up until after 3 weeks. Then proceeds to tell me they had done all the things on their PIP before we even went on the plan. And how someone younger than them has been promoted while they haven’t.
The final day of their PIP period I was going to tell them they’re done. They put in their notice in that meeting knowing it was coming. Put in only 1.5 weeks.
Yeah, no. Bye bye. Asked them to pack up and leave that day then.
It’s people like this that give Millenials a bad rap.

I had an employee who managed to get himself hired above his level. Which is fine, but he was not performing or leading. He was ineffective with a difficult client, which led to me stepping in on multiple projects he was overseeing. I had a conversation with him about his need to step up his game and instead of listening, he got extremely defensive, blamed others, and then essentially disappeared from work for days at a time without finding coverage for the multiple deliverables he had due.
When he finally came back to work, I called him into a meeting but, like MD1, he was planning on giving notice.
Nope. End of the line.
@SAD1 Technically, my real title is somewhere around ACD. But my agency is pretty small and as funky titles. So when Fishbowl pulls from LinkedIn to confirm my title, it makes it seem like I’m lower than I really am. I don’t really mind, but it makes responses like the one above seem off. Sorry for the confusion!
