What do you think is better financially?
We just bought a house almost entirely financed by our families in cash (no mortgage). We owe them $150,000 and they want to be paid back in 2 years. I'm able to do this but would need to stop saving pretty much all of my money (besides 401 k).
Would it have been better if I took out a mortgage and then would be able to save pretty much what I save now but would have to pay interest or is better to put little money in savings for 2 years and pay them back

If you’re able to pay it back in 2 years, it’s only 2 years. You can pick up saving again pretty rapidly, especially with no mortgage.

Just make sure you’re putting a bit away for property taxes (if applicable) and maybe $10-$15k for an emergency fund.

Thanks everyone!

Anyone who has started up a side hustle whilst working in consulting - is it generally a good idea to let your employer know or will they make your life difficult/try to push you out if they know?

(Context - I need the extra income to have a shot at affording grad school, I work for a small boutique, job contract was ambiguous on the issue. Side hustle is selling stuff I make as a hobby on Amazon)

Would like some thoughts on a 2-br NYC condo my husband and I are considering. $250K HHI (no kids). No loans or debts, both have newish cars fully paid off.

Offer would be for $725K, with 10 percent down. 30yr mortgage @5%. We would need to include closing costs in the mortgage, to keep about $10k liquid. Monthly costs will be about $5k.

This unit is special, very rare (we’ve rented in the area for 10 yrs and know the local market well). Should we go for it?
