When switching jobs, do y’all move your retirement accounts (401k, HSA) to your new provider or do you just leave it with your old provider (aka Vanguard, Fidelity, etc)?

Moved it, easier to have it all in one place.

like

Ditto, don't want to be looking up old employers either. Also, if firms merge or get sold off, it's not unheard of for company assets - such as retirement accounts held by a fiduciary - to be frozen for up to a year until the transaction is complete, which means your individual cannot be moved.

Or backdoor to your own IRA

like

If you stay in PA you’re required to move them

like

Need to look at A) do you want to back door IRA, if not then B) look at the fees of former employer plan vs current employer plan, along with investment options of the two and how much value you find in it being in the same account vs not.

like

Move it. You will save on fees over the long run. And easier to manage all in one place.

like

I’ve left them, and now I have 4, ha. I like feeling even more diversified, but 4 is too many. Two or 3 would be better, and one just kicked up the fees but it’s also performing better so it’s just a matter of what your preference is.

like

Personally I move my HSA to the new employer’s HSA and my 401k to a rollover 401k that I’ve setup.

Depends. If in public accounting still, move because of independence.

If not, consider investment options at old and new 401k plan, and fees, and consider the convenience over the long run.

I've only changed jobs once so far, 5 years ago, and I am now 10 years into my career. It wasn't necessarily ideal, but I wanted to take out a 401k loan to help with my house down payment, so I moved my 401k from my old job over. In retrospect the investment options were better in the old 401k.

Roll it into an IRA. Better control, more options, less fees typically.

I went from industry to PA and had to move mine because the company I worked for previously is audited by the firm and keeping it was an independence issue

I recently sign a lease. The apartment will put my security deposit into an interest-bearing account and requires me to fill out a form W9. I will join EY this June and just wondering if this is ok in terms of the independence rule. I guess the apartment will put my deposit in some sort of funds. Anyone with EY has experience? Reading the independence brochure, looks like it does not specify something related to this scenario but just wanted to confirm . TIA!

While filling itr do I have to disclose each trade or just the net profit?

Hello all!
I'm 26, I studied economics but I don't know why I'm not much into investing/trading. Someone else like this?
I recognize this is not a very good approach for someone with money "knowledge" and I would like to change this mindset. My main weakness is that I easily get bored of following the market and that I do not see big opportunities. Any advice?
Where to start learning, general advice for LT and ST investments, things you learnt, books that changed your pov on the topic etc.

Thx!
