I have been on the journey of setting my boundaries for a couple years now. Everyone knows that there is no guarantee of receiving a response from me within 1-2 days. I respond when I feel like it. And for messages I don't want to respond to, I just ignore

I was 30 when I heard about what boundaries were, and that I could have them. Taking care of a 14 year old he's a big help tho and my 2nd priority (I used to feel guilty about saying that). But minus him I have 2 elderly parents that refuse to keep up with the changing in the world (1 is Narcissistic and showing early signs of dementia) and an older brother and all three of them are in denial about I, so, for me there's really times that I cannot say no because if I do then whatever it is won't get do. So for them sometimes I don't say 'no' I say not 'right now.'
Still a work in progress but......I can't even pretend to function without a time block schedule. So I use that and ill block out specific time when people can ask for my help, anything outside of that time I'll automatically say no and not feel guilty about it.
When it comes to my family they have their own time block and if I tell them "I can't help you right now I will help you later" they have the choice to either wait or get somebody else or do it themselves because half of the time they don't really need help they just don't want to do it.
Before I knew about boundaries, my days would be so filled up of doing things for them, when I would get down to finally do what I needed to do, it would be 10:00 at night everybody would already be asleep in bed and I had nobody to ask for help when I needed it. I got so behind, out of my routine. I started to be mad at them, until I realized it was my fault. I was doing it to myself not having any boundaries, but I couldn't be mad at myself because I didn't even know what boundaries were. And what keeps me from turning cold and bitter and saying no to everyone is knowing what morals and values I have. Making me the first priority because if I'm not doing well, I'm not doing good, if I'm not taking care of myself then I can't take care of anybody else, I can't help anybody else.
Well with my sister was easy to set the bounderies now that I am able to do a better job doing that but with my parents no chance since they are also super cold, ignorants, they don t give a f… about me and my life and usually when I have problems into my life regarding my health or job and so on exactly that period of time after they find out about them the stop talking to me and behave with me like I do not exist for them (I live in another city as well); anyway so since they do that I treat them the same: with silence that means I don t talk or visit them anymore not even for Xmas, NYE and so on and believe me when I say that I feel much more relax by myself, so no added stress or feeling overwhelmed just the sadness my parents never care or
Loved me the way I needed since I was just a child so I ve learnt from my therapist and friends they don t deserve to sacrifice my life like I did in the past when they got me also sick and just keep a distance with them unless they behave ok with me. I hope my experience would help a bit anyone who reads this. Take care!
