Hi, I am going through a few books on consulting and one thing which seems to be given a lot of importance is market sizing. What is the importance of this? It seems to me that unless it is a new product; existing competitors, long term contracts, monopolies etc would make this result unreliable at best and misleading. Can someone help me understand this?

26 yrs old, been in consulting since finishing undergrad. Worried that I haven't narrowed my focus or found a niche to be specifically great at. Every project has been completely different... And I am constantly reading books to get smart on every other topic. My guess is this is all too common in consulting.

I am curious if this is feasible for a longterm career in consulting, especially if I am trying to continue climbing?

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.
