What is FAANG? Discussions

I've received 2 offers to FAANG companies this year as Sr Product Mgr, got along brilliantly with the teams, but ultimately neither were willing to help process my visa in this climate. I know folks have it more rough, but feeling pretty bummed out.

Hi, I’ve completed 3 years as H1B and just received extension for the next 3 years. My employer will file prevailing wage with the DOL in the next 3 months in EB3. I have heard that some FAANG companies start filing GC within 3 months of joining. I’m already studying to switch jobs. How much time do I have to switch jobs so that there is adequate time left for GC application?

I am in cloud engineering. My current salary is 140k and this is my milestone year to become manager. I have been getting offers from non FAANG companies but capped at 150- 165k. All roles are typically through service companies and of cloud engineer profile. My dilemma is that I don’t know if I should exit to lesser known firms since brand is of some importance to me. 1. Are the salaries being quoted normal for cloud ? 2. Is it worth leaving at this point of my career or should I make the move

Advice on FAANG or similar exits for someone in Healthcare? I've worked on revenue cycle, workforce strategy/staffing, supply chain. It only seems supply chain would fit for somewhere like Amazon?

Finally watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix. It didn’t say anything that we didn’t already know about social media and big tech, but it’s still alarming and worth the watch. The biggest question I have after watching is why do people still romanticize FAANG? Is just purely the money and prestige? Are we selling our soul for a highly regarded exit opportunity? Just curious.

Why is leaving for Microsoft not seen as good as FAANG? I’d argue Microsoft is probably better than Netflix at the minimum

Got a client solutions role at Facebook but also a strategy & product analytics opp at NYT. If strategy & product is end goal, is NYT a better choice? Scared to give up FAANG

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

How difficult is a Square interview. i have heard it is different from other companies. Do they ask leetcode and do they ask system design. where would interview difficulty rank among Faang. Same difficulty as amazon or higher?

I have an offer for a finance role from one of the faang companies out of Seattle. Total comp is little over $400k. Is this a respectable offer? I’m currently based out of a tier-3 city and working for one of the big4s.

At what point is it considered optimal to make the jump from Big4 to FAANG? I've been a Tech Consultant at EY for a little under a year and, while I like the company very much, I do very little actual technical work. Experienced hire, Senior, 130k base. I'm very tempted to jump over to Amazon (despite their reputation for frugality). Do I attempt to make the switch now or wait until I get promoted to Manager?

I was just talking to a younger friend who goes to Cal and It seems like the kids these days hate FAANG or at least Amazon and Facebook are not desired at all. I personally don’t see too many issues working at either Amazon or Facebook because I work at Deloitte where I’m sure we have many questionable clients and worked in financial services before. Both my wife and I work for FAANG companies. As the stock has recently gone through the roof I was wondering if we should try to protect the gains (covered call/put options). Understand we will be giving up upside but we might need to liquidate in about a year or so for a down payment. Any one ever done that? How would you think about the strategy here?

Reading through some possible interview questions for FAANG. One of the ones I've seen on Glassdoor are to design a basic architecture structure for something like Netflix or Twitter or Spotify. I've been researching online using AWS or GCP (still learning all the moving parts of architecture). Any advice on how the setup would be? I'm assuming you'd start with some Load Balancers. For Netflix maybe have different different APIs for signing up vs scrolling through possible movies?

What’s do the typical exit roles to industry look like for an M from D with 8-10 YOE? I feel like the only traction I’m seeing is for Senior Program Manager roles for non-FAANG companies (San Diego based FWIW). Are these just a lateral move or a downgrade since these are all individual contributor roles?

Should I even try to apply for google/facebook roles? After ~100 applications in the past 3 years, Ive got 2 interviews (1 with f and 1 with g) without an offer. I’m a 2nd year manager in tech industry in bay. Got my mba in top 30 school with no pre-tech experience before. I’m at 4 years now in the bay working for all sorts of tech clients including faang. I rarely get any response and never passed 2nd round. Should I give up and just try to find a stepping stone elsewhere?

I’m surprised so many of you want to “exit to FAANG” - I find Facebook/Amazon/Google to be pretty despicable companies - Apple has questionable moral standards when it comes to making their products, Netflix seems like the best of the bunch.
