I joined a consulting firm few months ago after MBA. Before that, I worked in industry for more than 5 years. Being an international student, I am still struggling to adjust to culture here. I feel overwhelmed and developed imposter syndrome. Although, the quality of my work is good, I am not able to communicate and even answer basic questions properly. I always live under fear of getting fired or doing major goof up. Can someone who felt this way help how to overcome this feeling?

My boss assigned me to a project for which I have no training or expertise. I was billed out at full rate but could produce nothing. My boss was okay with that as long as he made his numbers. I on the other hand saw a real ethical problem with the situation. When I spoke to my boss about this, I was fired.

Anyone else super anxious about upcoming recession and potential layoffs? New hire and feel like I walk on egg shells 24/7 when I’m in the office

Do companies sometimes overspend prior to EOY to make it look like their costs are higher than they actually are? So that next year they retain a higher budget, or keep their stock growth linear? I’m noticing a lot of wastage in budget with 3 of my clients (hiring more, keeping useless positions, etc) - especially in this economy. No layoffs or budget cuts yet..Not a finance guy sorry idk how any of this works.

So many companies are talking about layoffs. Especially financial services. Just got an offer in Research role in MBB. Worried about layoff at MBB. Can anyone please share more colors and perspectives on MBB layoff potentials?

How’s the deal flow at Bain PEG right now? I’m interested in interviewing, but I have strong utilization with my current team and am worried about current economic environment. Moving and then facing extended bench time or even a layoff have me concerned. I’m an associate at EYP

So I’m training my counterpart in India to do a similar role to what I’m doing now. I’m assured of a promotion in the next 3 months but they just stopped hiring my position in the US. I feel like I should be safe and the plan towards how my responsibilities should change seem solid and logical, but a million people have said that before getting laid off. Feels like shit. Looking for advice.

I was laid off last week and have yet to sign my departure agreement. I was at the firm 8 years, no PIP, hitting numbers. Offered 16 weeks pay and benefits through end of month. Two questions:
1. Should I have an attorney review the agreement before signing?
2. Should I negotiate for better severance? (I’ve heard negotiation can give them the right to withdraw severance altogether.)

I got laid off and the decision was made by senior ups. I was able to land a new job within 2 weeks and I want to tell my manager and senior manager that I landed a job and not just LinkedIn flex on them. What’s the best way to do it and what do I say?

How old were you when you first were able to max out your 401k? Got my first job at 22. Got laid off at 24 (thanks Covid). Entering back into the workforce now at 26 (b-school in between) but not at a salary where I can max out 401k and I only have about $8k in right now ☹️ Am I screwed?

Have an interview with a company I really want to work for tomorrow. My last job I was laid off b/c of an acquisition&recently accepted a job at a diff company b/c I couldnt afford not to. Someone on my team got laid off due to firm wide budget cuts. He was really good at his job and as a person.. don’t know reasoning behind this. But now I’m the one doing my own job and half of theirs - not getting paid anymore. What to do? This is industry

Employer is changing the org structure to put me in a new role. The new role isn’t the right fit, and is reporting to someone who’s a peer (he hasn’t been promoted). Effectively, I see this as my current role being in eliminated and I’m being forced to take up this other role, or resign. Any suggestions on how I could make them a ‘package offer’ aka severance? Spoke with HR lady she said this isn’t a layoff since they are offering a new role which I’m refusing willfully

I’ve been unhappy with current employer for a while and was planning to find a new job until I started hearing ‘massive layoffs’ and ‘mega-recession’ all over the news. I haven’t built up a sufficient nest egg/financial safety net yet so am very risk averse here. Can’t afford to move and then get laid off. Obviously, anything possible, no guarantees, etc, but does anyone have any insight to share re the job market/outlook? Good idea to stay put or don’t worry about it/good time to make a move …?
