MBB vs Big 4 Discussions

What consulting firms sponsor MBA? I know MBB/ most tier 2’s do - what about big 4/ other firms?

Does lateraling to MBB from another firm (ex. T2 / Big 4 / Boutique) impact project opportunities and your “sense of worth” to clients compared direct hires? Or generally no impact, because you went through the same rigorous process + are generally equally as capable.

Is there anyone you know of/who’s in here that went from a Big 4 to an MBB at SM/PPMD level? Do you see that happen

Ok if Squid game happened and it was between MBB, big 4, and FAANG.... Who comes out on top? Also who do we think would be running the games?

I am 31 and I am planning to switch jobs. I have done consulting for 4 years, moved to industry for 3 years and now I am planning to go back to consulting to chase the partner dream. In a dilemma if its a good career move or not. How long does it take to make partner at MBB or big 4?. Is it worth the grind or should just stay in industry? Appreciate any insight.

Anyone have heart palpitations with the recruitment processes at some of these firms? Have interviewed so far at an MBB and a big four and possibly it’s because they are understaffed, but I’m getting instances of disorganization, inconsistent guidelines, scheduling snafus, confusion on the side of the people interviewing me, comms falling off the face of the map, forgetting emails I replied to previously. Maybe Covid has exacerbated the situation, but I find myself worrying.

Any former big 4 consultants move into T2/MBB? I am curious on how you did it

In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). Thoughts?

Technical data analyst role

MBB is known for fastest progression to Partner in 6-7 years and SIGNIFICANTLY better comp compared to Big 4. That said seeing some of my Big 4 friends make it to SMs in 7 years so MBB needs to amp up the meritocracy based promotions.

Curious what would be the comp for a 1st year consulting partner in Big 4?

I have an offer to join them but if I do my current practice/team will be very upset and burn all bridges. Should I do it? Fairly new to consulting. When people say Tier 2 firms, what do they actually mean? Obviously MBB is Tier 1, but what is Tier 2 and where do Big 4 fit into the picture?
