Based on some of the ominous posts/articles about firms going back to stealth layoffs, should I be weary about lateraling to BigLaw in a non-corporate practice area?
I started interviewing with a company back in January but they were taking while to make a decision so I put them out of my mind. Fast forward to last week and I found out that I’m newly pregnant. Now, I was offered the job. I don’t know what to do! I hate my current job and this new company seems like a better fit. Do I tell them before I accept the role? I know it’s very early and anything could happen with this pregnancy but I’m torn. Advice would be so helpful!
Did anyone only start using their middle initial when they became an attorney? I have no idea where I got the notion but I felt like it was too formal at all my jobs before I went to law school but totally appropriate once I was licensed. Is this a custom?
12 yr lawyer here, just moved to CA due to a spouse transfer and am not sure if I want to start over here. I have a good network in my home state. Any remote contract lawyers? How do you find work?
Which books would you recommend to a product counel for tech startup about strategy, management, and leadership?
As a company we are looking at going digital with our employee personnel and medical files etc. What are some of the ways you have done that? Any advice/recommended process?
I got distracted yesterday drafting an appellate brief and completely forgot to show up for a warm body hearing involving a coverage MSJ that has nothing to do with my client. Regardless, I am mortified and of course apologized to the partner. Do I need to address anything with the court or OC or is this nbd?
Do "market" firms pay recruiters similarly? I feel mine is making special effort for a recent submission as opposed to others and I'm cynically wondering if it's because this firm pays a bigger fee.
1) Billable ID attorneys, HOW do you consistently bill 8-10 hours a day. Idk how to bill besides that you need to do it immediately. And 2, how long did it take for you to get comfortable billing.
I’m a Canadian lawyer at an Aml50 firm in the US on a TN visa. I would like to take steps to change over to an immigrant visa (H1-B). Has anyone done this? If so, how did you bring up the conversation? How long were you employed before asking for this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
How long, on average, did it take you to study before you could pass the PHR/SPHR exam? Did you think it was worth it?
How long do you typically allow for self assessments and manager assessments for year-end? This year we gave employees a week and managers 3 weeks (holidays not included), but they still said it wasn’t long enough even though most waited until the very last day to complete them.
When a partner sends back your doc with tracked changes, should I do anything more than accept changes and proofread again? Seems like I am constantly just volleying minor changes back to them.
For anyone who’s started at a company fully remote (Covid or otherwise)… when ramping into your new role, what did you do to feel more connected to your team/sales dept? I’m finding that I have questions that I don’t know how or whom to ask, I don’t know who anyone is and my manager can be MIA. This is my first fully remote role and it’s thrown me for a bit of a loop
I’m interested to know opinions on which service is better for in-house counsel, Practical Law or Lexis Nexis? Or another option that I might be unaware of? I want to be able to access templates, practice guides, and checklists.
How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
For those of you who spent the time and money to get the PHR or SHRM certifications, do you feel that it actually strengthened your professional capabilities as on HR professional, or did you just do it to fit into the “HR Professional” crowd?
After speaking with my RP about promotion to manager and all the brown nosing I need to do to get my name out there...starting to question if I even want it. Is it worth it?
Currently in a slump from not having gotten promoted. Looking for stories or motivation to lean on to help me making some decisions - did you choose to stay and work your butt off for the next promotion cycle? Did you quit and find something better?
Accepted an offer that's giving me carry in a fund that's 2019 vintage. 1/4th of the Interest will be vested in two years, and the remainder of the Interest will vest in equal annual increments over six. However, as I'll probably be gone in two years, will l still receive the carry for the remaining 6 years after I leave?
Anyone here from Boise? I’m from Texas, but plan on moving to Boise for a month and explore the area while wfh. I’m looking at internet for a month and wanted to get some suggestions on what the best internet is for a month? I’ve googled some and found one called Sparklight. Can anyone chime in?
LEK Consulting & Oliver Wyman folks: be honest, how difficult is the case interview going to be? I'm nervous about even applying because I haven't cased in years. And it's tough to find time/energy for that kind of prep right now.
Just found out my exit company doesn’t use Microsoft office and uses gmail and google suite. I am now sad
Any recommendations for CFP Programs? So many options! Also, has anyone taken Series 50, I’m using STC and wondered how the exam is. Thanks!
I'm a first-year associate. Any time during a social event (virtual or real life) people mention their significant other and passively ask about my current status, I run into the dilemma of telling the truth or flat out lying. The truth: I'm in my late 20s and always had an attraction to older women. During lockdown I started seeing this older married woman in her 60s. Her husband allows it
Any insight into what the “skills” interview consists of at Accenture Tech Strategy? Specifically for the Accenture Tech Strat & Advisory offering. Not sure what types of skill questions will be asked since this isn’t a technical implementation role. TIA!
Deloitte Application Modernization and Innovation group: Project Analyst, PMO Consultant role. Does anybody know what to expect with the case study for this type of role?
I am pretty certain I'll be laid off in the next 2 months, and am about to start a new project, with a very high-profile client and incredibly demanding work pretty much round the clock. Do I just "go with the flow" until I get my pink slip? I don't want to be killing myself knowing I am on my way out, but I can't exactly share this with the client either. Any recommendations on how to proceed?
New canker sores keep popping up since I've started this new project. Any helpful solutions for prevention / healing? Right after the old ones heal, I immediately get new ones :(

Anyone interested in brainstorming case studies / preparing for case interviews with me?
Had an interview at another consulting company and saw my colleague passing on the hallway. That was about a year ago. I stayed and now the partner that interviewed me joined our firm. It’s a small world indeed. Anyone ever met a colleague while interviewing?
Has anyone reapplied for a role where they previously got rejected after interviewing? Was it successful?
I’m constantly in reviews without my copywriting partner. Yesterday I was honest with her about my frustrations in her. She has a lot of work on her plate but I’m constantly picking up slack to make sure things work easily for her. But I’m sick of being the one in reviews while juggling my own work. This morning my CD and her made subtle remarks about the subject in front of the whole team (side note they do this when they want to talk shit about what other people say).
