McK without a doubt
I was in that situation long time ago, personally I chose OW and best decision I have made. Rationale back then was that I was going to spend quite a lot of time at work and preferred to do it with people I connected/liked better (this is very personal, others would connect better with Mck people). I joined 16 years ago with the idea of doing this for 2 years and still here. If you care a lot about brand then Mck clearly better
+1
Excellent response.
McKinsey is good for your resume. But you have to work for McKinsey.
Take the interview offer. Best case you get an offer and you have to quit / rescind your T2 offer. Tell McK you have another offer on the table or are in other interviews to see if they can expedite their process.
Pro
This is not an interview to offer. Looks like OP got the actual McK offer
Go to Mck. Nobody/few at best at Kearney at junior ranks is there because they "turned down McKinsey"
Later on in life, different story. But starting out, it's a no brainer.
Second OW2, have talked with a few MBAs who had an offer from MBB and Kearney and turned down MBB. It may not be 50% but there are a significant number of Kearney folks in my view that either had and offer from MBB or are pre-eminently qualified to work there and/or have been reached out to by MBB recruiters.
People want different thinks as OW2 stated, some people go for name brand like McK, some people want a different experience and are qualified for both firms.
You already know the answer, if you had integrity you wouldn’t have taken the McKinsey interview in the first place. Have integrity the second go around and decline the T2 offer with grace and dignity.
Strongly disagree that this has anything to do with integrity. These companies give zero shits about you. You do what’s right for you.
I might be at the same boat. I said yes to a tier 2 and interviewing for an mbb final now…if the same thing happened to me, I don’t know the consequence of rescind the offer
Switched from T2 to McKinsey, McK any day, just do it!
