Well, the pay scale is low for the work load. The job doesn't get the respect it deserves. Does it surprise me that men have said "No thanks" for decades? Not really.
We skew female, but only 60/40, so it's not that big of a deal - it balances out over time. How unbalanced are you and what industry? Is it negatively impacting team performance? If not, I would not sweat it.
Some industries are just like that. Take dietetics for example. 90% of dietitians are female, and that's just how it is. You can't really do much about it because you can't force men to go to college for something they don't want to do.
Working in tech and this is not a problem here
Definitely not in my group which is male dominated
Two factors - sector and educational attainment trends.
Highly dependent on sector. History has shown that once women start entering a field and reach a certain threshold, wages drop and the trend continues.
Women closed the gap on bachelor's degrees in 2010. So I would expect entry and mid-level demographics to be at least parity (on average across sectors, recognizing there is variation between sectors). It will be quite some time before women catch up at the executive/c-suite level bc there are other structural challenges contributing to the glass ceiling.
