Do you think it's okay to take your birthday off? My birthday is on Friday so I put in PTO and it was approved. I casually mentioned that I was looking forward to having a quiet Friday off and a bunch of coworkers, including my manager, made fun of me for it like it was a bad reason to take time off.

If my birthday is during the week, I take it off.

I just started this a few years ago and I love it. As a manager, wife and mom- it’s a day for ME!

like

What exactly is a good reason to take time off? It’s your vacation time, use it however you want to use it.

Also- who wants to work on their birthday?

(F)orget them folks. Use your PTO for whatever you want to.

like

Me and everyone on my team take the entire week off for our birthdays. If you have PTO enjoy it bc we all know PTO just stands for Prepare The Others. If someone is gonna make fun of you for enjoying life then they must not have enough joy in theirs. Celebrate your birthday and enjoy the day off. Work will still be there the next Monday

like

It’s your PTO to use however you want too. We get a personal holiday I typically use for my birthday.

My birthday is the week of July 4 and I always take the whole week off.

My birthday always falls in a short week after a holiday and I have always taken that whole week as my vacation. Don't feel bad for taking the day.

I take my birthday off every year. Take your time however you want.

I don’t work on my birthday, never! To hell with them, enjoy your long weekend.

like

I think you’d look worse bending to their pressure. I think you have no choice now but to take it off. Shows that you have a spine. Happy Birthday!

like

I generally don't take my birthday off, but that is because I am not a very birthday centered person. Even when I worked somewhere that gave you your birthday off, I would usually use it another day, which you could do within a reasonable time before or after the date. This being said, who cares what I do? If you want to take the day, take it! It isn't anyone else's business.

I am ab to turn 46 and have never worked on my birthday.

You are a Leo. We do that. Why have co-workers let you down or potentially ruin your day? I get it. Enjoy your day.

Most people I know take their birthday off.

I haven’t worked on my birthday in 20+ years. That’s what the floating holiday is for ! It’s YOUR holiday, take it!

I think it’s a great idea. Do what makes you happy. Enjoy your day!

Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different
