Given the recent layoffs, is now a good time to transition into Fintech from Tech Strategy?

Nah, big tech and saas only right now. They’re the most stable in times like this

like

A lot of the venture backed saas companies will see a tough year. Layoffs, consolidation with other companies. But a large publicly traded one has the ability to pull levers to lessen the blow for the down turn

like

Infrastructure (energy or AWS) and telco is probably the only safe place

like

No to Fintech, Real Estate, or transportation. They are responsible for a majority of the layoffs over the last 6ish months.

like

Depends on the fintech. If they make loans of any kind or work on markets expect to get laid off as a new hire. Could see some processor or SaaS type ones doing ok

That’s a good distinction, payment processors and gateway vendors are unlikely to go under since their customers will still need to run transactions

I would avoid any fintech right now. Public. Private. Etc. There’s nothing that differentiates them from an offering perspective. If you’re cool with going and potentially getting acquired by a bank or other large company then go for it but I think the macro conditions have exposed a lot of micro holes in their products and services

I’m sure others have considered this, I really feel burned out on my specific subspecialty. For the most part I do interventional pain management. I am midway through my career, but I cannot in anyway see doing this for the future, it just doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference. I’m honored to be a physician and to help a handful of people, but any suggestions on changing specialties mid life? I have perhaps 15 to 20 years yet to practice.. I’ve looked at concierge medicine, I’m open

Leaving soon for brand management role in CPG which I’m really excited about but curious if this will close the door to opportunities (product marketing, non technical product manager) in tech in the future. Really interested in the brand management role but if I end up not liking it the comp trajectory is not nearly as good as tech and wanted to know if that door will still be open. 2YOE, if I make a switch would likely be at 4-5YOE assuming I don’t go MBA route

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Hello everyone, I just joined this bowl and have a very basic question. I have a humanities background in terms of academics which means I haven't studied maths or cs as a subject since high school. I'm currently working as an Analyst and recently graduated with a degree in BA Economics and History. I need to know if 1. it's possible for me to transition to a PM role in the next 4 years and 2. if yes, how? Thanks already for reading this far, have a good day!
