One time i went to see Questlove speak. He said that it’s good to have moments of boredom. Those moments of nothingness tell you what you really feel like you must do in life. I brought that mentality with me when i was back at home and looking for a new job. What i did, and i recommend for you too, is to use this time to learn as much as you can to gain new skills for work, exercise regularly, eat and cook healthily. And try your best to change your mentality to looking forward to this unknown ahead
It’s definitely tough being unemployed during the holiday season! It’s also a great time spend time relaxing and reflecting on all that you’ve accomplished in your career and all the network you’ve cultivated! Reconnecting with old colleagues and peers may be helpful and could lead to new full time opportunities or maybe even freelance work to fill in the gaps! When I’m stressed or going through tough times, journaling, meditation, practicing gratitude and affirming myself are so therapeutic! If you’re open, happy to send some app suggestions your way! :)
If you’re feeling pretty down, it might be helpful to write down the negative thoughts feeding this feeling. Then interrogate those thoughts, are they based on fact? Is there evidence to support a more positive thought? Challenge the thinking. It’s natural to feel negative in this situation, but don’t allow your self-talk to get toxic. Know you are worthy. And know this is a temporary situation.
i get why it’s demoralizing but it’s not personal it’s business and has nothing to do with you. everyone in this industry gets laid off AT LEAST once. Probably many time tbh. Don’t beat yourself up! Enjoy your time off. There will be another job before you’re even ready to go back to work
Hey hang in there... I went through this when I was laid off the week before Christmas... but what I did after getting over the initial anger was to really think about what I wanted in my next job..I redid my resume... I went to the library and researched other industries. It was hard and I can’t say I wasn’t depressed, but Idid stay productive and had a chance to work on myself. good luck to you
