Some things I do that work for most employees:
-Flexible start times. Some people want to start at 7AM, some want to start at 10AM. As long as there is coverage, I don’t care.
-I don’t micromanage. If I said it’s due Friday, I don’t reach out Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday to see what progress has been made. I’ll ask when it’s due and if the deadline is missed, then I reconfigure my working relationship with them.
-I schedule weekly 30 min check-in meetings for any questions they might have. If there are no questions, I end the meeting early.
-I follow up all calls with an email listing out what we talked about, what my asks were and when they’re due. Also included are any resources I discussed (links, etc.)
-I’ll give an example for them to follow. For instance, if I’m expecting a presentation slide, I’ll send them an old one that the partner liked that’s similar to what I’m asking for. I know what it is I want; if it exists to show them, it makes sense to send it to them.
-I ask if a deadline is feasible. I know how many projects everyone is juggling and I don’t want staff so overloaded they can’t possibly produce a decent deliverable. If I’m asking for something impossible, I want to know that.
youre amazing
1- speak up
2- start and lead an ERG
3- If you're a senior manager, bring up the topic with your HR and start to understand if the company is doing enough to support people.
4- talk about it with your team and staff
5- follow companies like Mantra and others to familiarize yourself with the process.
The Economist recently published a "meh" but convincing collection of articles on how NDs do NOT have any mental health or mental disability, and that it's actually part of the population and should be accepted and treated as so.
Seems like being an ally starts with engagement. What about at your workplace? How could you invite people at work into a conversation about ADHD?
