Definitely know people who bartend and other things after regular hours. Your manager should not have issue with this because we are all allowed to have things going outside of work. I tell my creatives to make shit up. Lie to me and say you have volleyball practice twice a week..or night classes..whatever it might be. Make time for yourself because the job won’t. It also helps train the rest of the team on the fact that we creatives aren’t just available at the drop of a moment. Just make sure you are working hard at your day job too. There’s no room in this convo for people who phone it in all day and then can’t help after hours. All this to say do it!
Slow your troll roll. I’m not advocating for taking a second job. I’m answering the question of is it ok to take on work outside regular hours. I always try to get my team raises when possible so don’t make assumptions. I’m advocating for my team to not get screwed into working nights and weekends so they can have a life outside of work. Whether that’s picking up additional freelance, taking an art class, attending their kids school events, bartending or whatever else they want to do.
Babysitting was always my side hustle. Rich New York families pay pretty well.
I desperately want to for the same reason you listed, but there’s no way they would ever allow us to have reliable work ending hours. I keep looking for any shorter early morning shifts starting at 3-4am that would have me home no later than 9. No luck yet, but I’m keeping an eye out.
