Have kids if you want to be perpetually humbled by little people who find it thrilling to roast you. My oldest (8) said he didn’t think I was that smart. I told him I graduated second in my class. He then quoted Nelly and said “as Nelly says, two is not a winner and three nobody remembers…” Someone come get this kid and grab me a bottle of Prosecco on your way over 🤣

A few months ago my husband got on the scale and the same kid pointed, laughed, and yelled “hahahaha my 600 lb life!!!” … he also told the TSA security agent that he didn’t know who I was. He also yelled “mom, I’m so proud of you for making a friend!!!” at the airport lounge when I struck up a convo with the lady next to us (he knows I’m antisocial). And he yelled “are you giving us the medicine that makes us sleepy??!” on purpose when we got on the flight because he remembered ONE TIME when I gave them melatonin for a flight when they were super little. Oh and last week when we went to the grocery store at 8am on a Saturday (as one does with small kids), he yelled “ARE WE HERE FOR YOUR CHAMPAGNE??!” in front of all the other moms and old people that were there at the same time. Pray for me.

Raising a kid who can roast is an accomplishment. If my future kid isn’t funny, he or she has to get tf.

I feel like the kids these days are something else. Love the confidence your son has. I know it wasn't the point of your post, but he's clearly very secure and safe in your parenting and I just love this!

Aw thank you! He cracks me up. We butt heads sometimes but he knows he can always come and talk to us about anything 🥰

Should I transition to a tech sales job? Thoughts on risk vs reward? I am 34 yo, married with a baby incoming. I work at Google Cloud in solutions engineering (I help develop quantitative business cases with sales teams for customers). My cash base + bonus is $220k (going to ignore equity). I have an MBA from the University of Chicago, not that it matters much in sales. I have always been in a consulting role but I think I can make more in sales. I have a competitive personality and I am bored.

Expecting parent, 35yo, NW of $1.2M with investment property in my hometown in Europe near family & friends (mortgage is less than $1k). Current expenses in Bay Area is 5K a month, probably more once baby comes.
Thinking of leaving Bay Area in 2 years and semi-retire for a few years in Europe, focusing on parenting and freelancing.
Any thoughts on this plan? Anything I should be aware of?
Thanks!

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?

Are there any mothers here who voluntarily gave primary custody to the kids father? I love my children fiercely but tbh I don’t think I’m cut out to be a single parent. Family and friends tell me I’m a great mom but at the end of the day having them on my own is exhausting and I end up just either letting them do whatever they want Bc I don’t feel strong enough to set a limit about it, or yelling at them. They’re 4 and 7 for reference. Please constructive responses only. Thank you!

Just recently found out Im pregnant and another 33 week wait looks like forever. Any tips to cope with it?

Ladies, I commend all of you who are pregnant and lawyering on the daily! I am 10 weeks pregnant and haven’t been working much since I left my firm in March. I tell my husband every day “IDK how anyone is pregnant and practicing law at the same time.” After a morning in court last month I was totally out of commission for the day. If you are still working as a lawyer full time and growing a human it is something to be proud of!

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?
