For those of you that have your own book of business (big or small), how did you go about getting your own clients? I do not live in the state that I grew up in/went to college in so most of my connections are law-school related. Even if I did, I grew up in a blue collar town so any connections I do have there wouldn’t materialize into a client base. Why is it so difficult to make the next career move within your OWN company. I have over 7 years of experience across multiple departments and yet an external company is more willing to give an interview to select roles than your own home company for the same role internally!!

First in my family to go to college, parent is abusive so I have no safety net & had no help. Worked full time all through college & still graduated with 30k in debt. In this field, when choosing a masters degree program is it more beneficial to get a degree in Human Resources to further my knowledge in HR (my undergraduate degree is in Economics) , an MBA, or Data Science Degree due to the fact that HR is becoming more data driven as well as get a PHR / SHRM-CP certification?
