I’ve been battling an eating disorder for 7 years as well (bulimia). YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Opening up about your struggle is the first step to recovery, and I’m so proud of you for sharing here. Talk to a therapist, talk to your family, talk to your closest friends, because recovery requires a support system, you cannot do it alone. Don’t worry about medications or anything else right now, just take this one step at a time.
I have been in recovery for over a year and I am so blessed and thankful. Eating disorders are mean, nasty bullies. But you are strong, you are brave, and you’re gonna kick this thing in the butt. Xoxo
I started seeing a therapist for an eating disorder, and was evaluated for OCD. Turns out I have moderate OCD which many times runs concurrent with ED. I was able to get medicated for the OCD and therefore the disordered eating was easier to deal with. Help might not look like what you think it will. Have an open mind, and use the EAP at your firm if you’re not sure where to start. Best wishes.
Don’t go through this alone, go speak to a therapist, PwC offers confidential therapy sessions if you look on your health and benefits page on Kcurve- you have access to firm paid for sessions (6) this will be a place to start to open up to healing. You are not alone, you are very courageous to share, it’s the first step.
To go see a professional because I’m afraid they’ll see a disorder in me that i haven’t addressed yet and it’ll make it real. And i feel like doctors are too quick to prescribe medication and i don’t want to be medicated. Who am i kidding i don’t actually want to work on my problems but I’m afraid I’m close to the edge again like i was in high school
Over time, I’ve learned that addressing specific behavioral issues with counselors means that there will be some painful realizations. Don’t give up on the process early on because you are feeling pain instead of relief. The good news is that once these painful truths are acknowledged, you will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Think of it like a physical fitness challenge, knowing that you can reach your goal with persistence and the courage to push through the initial pain. Regarding medication, just make sure that what meds you take will support your talk therapy. Some meds in high doses can mask the emotions you need to tap into.
Have you tried meditation? Also keep a food journal, which makes you think and focus on how you feel before/during/after eating. Both helped me. Hang in there OP, enjoy what you eat and don’t let it dominate your life!
