How long do you plan to work as a sales engineer? Or do you plan to move into another role? I'm starting to feel so worn-down and uninspired that I'm starting to think about making a change.

This is my chosen career path, so I'm in it for the long haul. If you're having serious second thoughts, then I'd suggest exploring your other options. It only gets harder from here.

I disagree. My work has only been getting easier and easier the better I get at my job.

Why did you become a sales engineer? I have been one over a decade and can’t imagine doing anything else. Maybe you need a change of scenery.

like

I don't currently have any plans to switch careers, but I would be lying if I said I had not thought about it at different points. I am really struggling, but worry that switching career paths entirely isn't the right thing for me to do either. I'm really just weighing all of my options right now to think about what is best.

If you are seriously considering the need for a change, then my gut instinct tells me you need to make the change. At this point in my career, I am not getting that feeling.

I just made the switch so I am still figuring things out.

Hmm, I want to move into SE and curious why you feel worn down. Is it a mismatch?

Until I can make more money in a different role.
What’s making you feel that way? Too many calls? Too complex a solution?

I'm all about keeping my options open. Sales Engineering is great and all, but who knows? Maybe down the road, I'll feel the itch to tackle something new. Whether it's diving deeper into a different tech field, exploring a leadership role, or heck even starting my own thing.

Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.

The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.

Thoughts?

Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).
