How much vacation do you get at KPMG and is the office closed for the winter holidays for a week?

20 days for assoc to manager, 25 days for levels above. Additionally we get the week of July 4th off and from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day.

Office is closed from Christmas to New Years, and 20 days of PTO

Plus other holidays.

like

20 days of PTO as an associate. Additionally, a week around Christmas, a week around July 4th, MLK Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, and two days at Thanksgiving.

One thing I will add is we do not have sick days … any sick time has to come from PTO. (Unless the sick time is associated with Covid-19 recovery or vaccine side effects - those days off are “free”).

We do have PTO accrual but the max that can be carried over is 50% of your annual accrual, so 80 hours for most of us at the staff level.

On the bright side, our PTO counts towards utilization, which I do not think is true everywhere else.

like

The carry over doesn’t apply everywhere. If you live in certain states you can carry over more hours. 50% at minimum

Thank you everyone 😃

Caveat that the summer shutdown (less-so the winter one) as well as many other holidays may be client-dependent. Usually good managers will find a way to flex the schedule so you get your days off on the summer break but I know a number of people that were just never able to get the time off.

You technically can (I do), but I think it’s only through the end of the fiscal year. You can manage it with engagement partner, most are good with it, but know people who do deal work that just rolled from one deal to the next and never got it made up…it’s also just a headache that seems should be so difficult with a benefit.

But we have unlimited 🥴

We only have hours goals now (aka full utilization). It used to be effective utilization, which removed holidays, sick leave, and vacation days when calculating utilization.

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?

Starting a new job next month, and considering taking two days off for kids’ spring break next month. Not sure whether it’s appropriate to request time off for a new job (I would’ve preferred not to take any time off for first three months). I may just be able to just ask for a single Friday off (so 1 day rather than 2 days).

Any thoughts on whether I should proceed with the request? I just came from big law and want to make sure I’m not making a bad impression on my colleagues.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

Question for senior tax managers, tax directors, and higher in public accounting. Have you seen managers or senior managers in PA hired in tax who you feel know very little for the position, or does this happen only very rarely or never in your opinion?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
