There's no such thing as intern work, only work that needs to be done with either a good attitude or bad attitude. If you're not interested in working, the door is over there.
Direct but fair, I like it
I would have probably assumed it was a joke, laughed and said, “no, really - can you please grab my printouts? I’m on a call.”
Well actually I agree w the intern, you can do it by yself.
That’s not the point, pledge
how you ask matters a LOT
Personally I like to prostrate for 10 seconds when asking interns to do stuff, after all they are the future leaders
Honestly if an associate is taking notes during a call, I will gladly get printouts for them. It’s a team effort, nobody is above or below work
Agree 200%
She should have also showed you the middle finger emoji
I can see how they felt it was menial work. That being said gotta show you’re a team player. Whether it was a partner or an associate, if they asked me to grab some printouts because they were busy I would do it.
This got me heateddddd lol
I don’t know why but this reminds me of when I was a bouncer at a bar. A friend of mine came in who was a monster of a man.
The head bouncer said something like, “I hope he doesn’t start anything thing.”
I responded with, “If he does I’m not getting involved.” I liked my face and thought the potential of taking and errant blow to the head for $11/hr or whatever I was making wasn’t worth it.
I was fired the next day. And I get it. Both myself and the intern didn’t want to help out the team :)
Ha! I take a lot for the team these days and am always a team player. Often to my detriment. It took a string of colorful jobs to get my act together =]
If this is still on your mind weeks later... Let it go.
Why did you need something printed and returned to you ASAP if you are on a call? Printing is for boomers.
Also, the interns response should be like, "you have legs, grab it yourself". I have this marvelous device called a cell phone that allows me to walk and talk at the same time.
That's efficient...
I would be adamant about the intern not getting an offer lol
That’s actually insane. Like I cannot believe she said that haha
That’s bizarre. She needs to learn that you need to do whatever it takes to get your team over the line. In return you should provide her with good mentorship. As a junior I’ve volunteered to do coffee and food runs if critical team members were tied up in meetings or getting something over the line. Even now, if a team member was on a call, I’d go get the print out if it helped us win whatever deal we were working on.
An intern refusing to do grunt work lol what a time to be alive 😂
I love her
LOL
Why are you still working together in the same office
Who made you analyst
Just responding to the original post...the intern’s reaction is disrespectful and pretty stupid. I’d make a point of leaving performance feedback. Of course, I’m assuming if the tables were turned, you would have gone to the printer to get the printouts if the intern was on an important call, or if you were the intern?
Of course. I bind pitchbooks all the time so my secretary doesn’t need to and have gotten lunch for coworkers who are stuck on calls through the normal lunch window. Helping coworkers is always remembered
