I earn 75k and my spouse earns 130k; we file "married, separately." My employer doesn't offer 401k but my spouse's employer does offer. Due to "married filing separately" status. I understand I won't be able to open a Roth IRA. I dont have an HDHP, so, dont qualify for HSA either.

Is traditional IRA a good option for me? What are the pros and cons?

I hope fin gurus here can help me with advice. Thanks alot in advance!

Why do you file separately?

like

I DM-ED you. Thanks

You married filing separately doesn’t have impact on you opening Roth IRA.

Thanks

It doesn’t make sense to me why you’re both filing separately. While your partner makes double what you do, it would benefit both of you to file jointly for the Roth but also for other tax benefits, I imagine. It would double your deductions and other tax breaks

Thanks. SA1. I have DM-ed you.

Is it good to get stocks as part of CTC which has 4 years vesting period?

CTC looks high due to this stocks but effectively i would not be getting it for the 4 years. Also the yearly hike includes this stock component.

CTC had fixed, variable and stock part. Variable and stock is almost 30% of total ctc.

Really confused if this is a good deal or is it a trap.

Tips for refinancing a car I’ve had for 6 months. I’ve paid on time for every month but I’m paying $600/mo on a loan with 15% interest? I owe $25K. Will the original bank, Chrysler Capital, consider it or do I need to find another organization?

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?
