I have social anxiety from time to time in real life. This usually doesn’t show over the phone. However, I have had a few calls where I have been left a little speechless and quickly trying to transfer them, I have even agreed before that my company has bad service sometimes… I definitely don’t want to do that anymore. I want to be different. I want to sound sincere, confident, and not submissive. Any tips on what to say in similar situations?

Keep on practicing and you will get it. When dealing with customers try taking deep breaths, empathize with customers, offer solutions, and listen. You have this!!!

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to try to take all negative language out of your vocabulary and try to word things more positively. For example, “I’ll be able to get you transferred, the wait time is over an hour currently, would you like me to do X or Y for you today?” When we lead out with “sorry” or “unfortunately” that’s all the customer hears and they don’t feel helped. Even though you are helping them with everything you are able to do.

It's difficult to offer tips without knowing what other options you have available. I would recommend talking to your supervisor for feedback or scheduling a time for some coaching with QA. Even if it doesn't get you the feedback you need, it will put the message in your boss's head that you're trying to improve.

Always apologize without sounding apologetic. I'm not joking, practice with someone else or record your voice and playback. Repetition will make it easier. If you don't take charge, someone else will and you may not like their path or tone

What is your understanding of the norms around whose names end up on a brief/complaint/motion papers etc.? Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. Any suggestions?

Happy Halloween, my fellow Tech Pros! I love this Holiday, anyone come up with a creative costume to wear at work?

I’m pretty torn on whether I want to take an offer for an internal role or not…
The job itself sounds pretty interesting. Lots of opportunity for growth (eventually will build out a team).

My only concern is the hiring manager. I talked to someone in my network who has worked with him in the past and she told me that she would 100% work with him again bc she learned a lot, but that he has a very dominant personality and that some ppl can butt heads with him.

Poll: What dress code do you follow at your home office?

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?
