I want to be an HR generalist, but I am afraid I may have to take a step back in order to do so. I’ve been in recruiting and the talent management sector of HR for 5+ years. Now, I want to step into a generalist role, but realize I lack some aspects of experience that I maybe could have gotten as an HR coordinator. Do I need to take a step back/laterally move before becoming a generalist? I have my PHR. Thank you!

If you are internal within an org see if there are mentoring, shadowing or projects you can be part of that will help you gain that experience. Obtaining SHRM or PHR may also aid and provide you with additional resources. It may not be an immediate move but it’ll get you closer to HR without starting from scratch.

Thank you for this! I have thought about this, and may go this route. I’m seeking more flexibility with a fully remote role, and attempting to escape the mandatory daily work log and low pay. But if it would be better to stay for another year to learn more, that’s just what I may have to do.

Currently interviewing for a GC role at a crypto-focused hedge fund. They’re mostly focused on VC deal experience, but would prefer someone with some compliance experience. My background is in M&A and Capital Markets, so I have little-to-no crypto-fund compliance experience. I’d like to show them I’m serious about learning though. Anyone know of a good way for me to get some quick, relevant experience? Maybe a course, certificate program or other training I could enroll in to bolster my resume

Question/Advice. I’m currently working as a Pre-Access/Biller for a worker’s comp role with a 3rd party company handling 2 major hospital accounts. I feel severely underpaid as I work claims, pre-auths, follow-up, AR, RTW/atty req/med req/c9 req/approvals, etc. for the WC revenue cycle. Interested in hearing others salaries for the role? Or roundabout? OR WC salaries in general. Also, what’s the next upward career move after working a role as this? Thank you! (I work remotely if this helps)

DAE feel like this profession requires you to basically be perfect all the time? Manage internal reputation. Manage external reputation. Be social; don't embarrass yourself; but also don't just stay in your office; but also turn out good work product; also have hobbies so you're an "interesting" person who can talk to others; but also don't slip up and say the wrong thing. And "the firm" is always watching for those things.

I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren
