My brother took the law path, works for a big firm in a big city, and I would say some of his complaints are similar. Big difference though seems like they don't have as many client struggles, because the client is actually concerned with why they've had to hire them in the first place.
At BDO1 that's true - but most people that get their JD don't go to big law. The average salary for a law grad right now is like $70000. So if you include undergrad and Law school debt..... damn.
I would be more than happy to work 60 hour weeks year round for $180k. Oh wait. I already work 60 hour weeks year round for 70k. FML.
Talking about the law jobs that make 180k in NYC / SF out of law sxhool
They make more but generally work 60+ hours year-round. Ours is limited to busy season atleast. Not to mention the crippling debt - and uncertain job market
If you're making $180k out of law school I'd imagine you could pay off that debt pretty fast
60 hours a week is light in my experience. I used to work at one of the "big law" firms in NYC. First year associates make cake sure, but I don't think they ever went home. 12 hour days 6 days a week was normal. Very normal. And this specific company was extremely old school/traditional - face time meant the world to the partners. The partners would work 60weeks on avg
Of my 10 closest law school friends who went to work at "law firms" only 2 are still working at a big firm. Others have either left law entirely, switched to teaching or moved over to PA. The only lawyer friends who love their job are either law school professors or litigators.
The ones that switched to PA, how are they holding up? Must have similarities that they would hate
Less hours and they are on assignment so they are loving life. :-)
