Go for a run and have a strong drink, you'll feel better.
You need to get out of that mindset. The reason you won't make 200k a year is because you don't think you will make 200k a year. Get out and do something about it if you want it. You don't have to be a partner at an accounting firm to make that kind of money.
this is the mindset of people who quit after 3-4 years and go work for the county.
Most people won't make 200k a year even if your goal is to. Schools are churning out tens of thousands of big 4 recruits a year. Only a small percentage of them will make that kind of cash. Majority will end up with that 75k accounting industry job, making 2.5% raise a year until retirement
Hey i never thght id make 200k a year and now im 30 and might make 200k this year.
Aren't partners at 400k ?
I wouldn't ever call that a sad realization. We all kick ass at different things, whether they give us $$ or general fulfillment. There is no point having a goal to be partner just because it's cool in theory.
Making SM this year ... Biggest thing I've learned is sales cure all and find a niche industry. In a niche industry you matter more to the firm than it matters to you and your leverage completely changes.
No matter how good you are, you're always replaceable. While it may feel like a sad realization, it's definitely humbling. Do your job, and do it well, because if you don't there is always someone else who will.
I think I'd be more cut out to be an executive director and focus on execution vs selling as a partner at EY
SM ? What firm ?
how old are you
If you go private, with bonus eventually you can make 200K and it's not uncommon at all.
It will always be about the paycheck. I missed my chance to make a real difference in the world.
I would think partners make a lot more than $200k. 300 or 400k. Sr manager might be making around $200k
SM can make between 150-220 from my understanding depending on firm and sector. That is before bonus. Partners in the Big 4 warm up at 400 first year and average around 800.
