That’s a fair concern. I’m a 2020 grad finishing up 2 years of clerking from district court and COA, and when I was recruiting for post-clerkship positions, I was told I was too senior/asked to take 1-2 year class cuts. I found that the firms that have more of a culture of hiring clerks were less likely to mind.
Good luck!
Keep us posted -- I'm pretty much you shifted a year. C/o 2020, just finished a year in D.Ct. and started a yearlong COA. Went to biglaw straight out of school before that. Getting anxious that I'll be almost a 6th year when it's time to rejoin private practice...
2020 grad. Spent two years on a district court and 18 months on COA. I was given full class credit by my current firm. Offers varied from 1 year of class credit to 4. Agree with above that it depends a lot on whether the firm regularly hires clerks but no where DIDNT offer me because I had a lot of clerkship experience.
