Small companies are messy. Age have nothing to do with capability, and if he’s a sales professional being promoted into a sales role, best you don’t make it about you.
Things to consider:
1) it may not have been an open role. He could be getting promoted based on performance.
2) you should really ask yourself if you want that job or if you just don’t want to report into a younger person. As a business leader myself I’d find it weird that you’d wait until after something happened to advocate for yourself. Why haven’t you made a proactive move for your own advancement before hearing about this?
3) try to stay constructive in your thinking. Promotions are about potential about as often as they are about capability. Do you think you could support this new manager to shape him into an awesome manager and leader?
4) sounds like the deal’s done. If, upon reflection you are still sour then brush off that CV and bounce.
Whatever you decide, remember: taking your feelings out on this person is a dick move.
