In early August, I had an intro call with HR at a company I’m kind of dying to work with. It went great, but she said she wasn’t expecting for work to pick up again until September. BUT, she said she’d want to set me up on calls with creatives until then. Ostensibly, these calls would be further interviews. I haven’t heard from her since (I sent a quick follow up email after the call to say thank you). Do you think it’s dead in the water? How long should I wait until following up again?

The hostility on my team is rough. We have a yeller. I walked by her room the other day. She was screaming across the room at a student, "you have to be kind to get kindness." Seriously, those were her words in a loud, berating, angry tone. Our admin has asked that we not report these. We are to talk to the teacher. She has yelled at me and other adults. Admin has to know she treats the kids this way too. One teacher has to work with her door closed to not hear the yelling all day.

I have accepted an offer for the role of Director of Data Science & Analytics and I'll be working with old colleagues. I am very excited. I haven't given notice yet because I am waiting for the background check to complete, but my boss just asked me about traveling to a meeting in November. I start at the new job Oct 25. When emailing someone for an interview for the first time do you address them by Mr/Mrs last name or by their first name?

My company issues top of the line 16” MBP’s for engineers and lower end 13” MBP’s for all others. I work in analytics/ data science and struggle with the fact that my computer can only run 1 external display! No one else on my team cares. How can I navigate requesting a more expensive computer without annoying my leadership? I already own an upgraded MBP as my personal - can I offer to swap my work and personal machines?

Do firms typically share closing binders on M&A deals? Putting one together and an associate on the other side offered to share theirs whenever I asked for a particular document that I was missing. Is it an insult that I had to get them to give me theirs?

Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? The IC gives vague “direction” then says they are too busy to clarify. They also refuse to use our project management/ collaboration tools.

Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .
