^Tesla isn’t going to win the autonomous vehicle war...
Biggest issue I see.
You: “I work at Uber”
Someone: “Owe, you drive the car?”
You: “No, I work in the corporate office....”
Constant explanations... no thanks.
No they work you to the bone and don’t pay much. I think a lot of the reason you see consultants going there is that Uber recruits consultants heavily for that role, I suspect due to churn. I have literally been contacted by 3 different recruiters from different firms asking me to interview for that role since Dec 2016.
I was interviewed for a manager role and they offered me max 90k in Chicago. Too less to negotiate. Agree, if they need to hire consultants then they better raise their salary bars.
Totally up to you on what you think is a good role post consulting
Pay is shit. Senior associate role pays 95-100k base
I hear working for Uber sucks unless you really believe in there vision
Uber will be consumed by Tesla once the self driving car goes mainstream. Tesla owns will just let their cars drive around picking people up while they’re at work. I’d say 10-15 years tops.
Hard to consider going to a company like Uber that, I believe, has a limited shelf life
I don’t think it’s a “war”, it’s just the future in general. I think Volvo is well on their way, along with many others.
Regardless, people want be driving much longer... at least not for pure transportation purposes
I recently made a post asking for the insight of anyone whose been through the recruitment process for this specific role... If you’re referring to me - sure I’ll bite. I actually applied myself to the Canadian HQ in Toronto (not headhunted). While I don’t think it’s the best exit opportunity out there, I think it can be an interesting learning opportunity that would make you marketable for future operations management leadership roles at organizations centred around innovation and disruptive technology. More importantly (to me) the Canadian consulting industry as a whole generally pays a lot less relative to industry opportunities compared to the US, despite the same work-life balance expectations making it easier to justify exiting for a salary that would otherwise be perceived as lacklustre/or a downgrade to a US consultant . For context I only make 87k CAD base as a Strategy & Ops non-MBA Senior Consultant but I’ve been working on a US project team, billing US rates for the last 6 months. I would be making more money, travelling less, and find it hard to believe the work load would be worse than what I’m doing now.
No
80k for operation manager in SF. Lower than A3 pay
It seems like Uber’s culture leaves a lot to be desired. You can do better.
