Lincoln Financial is moving to an "unlimited PTO policy". That is nonsense. It puts pressure on the good people to not take enough time. And it forces managers to fight with the weak people on taking too much time. It sounds like a good thing, but it's not. Fight this terrible policy as hard as you can to get it reversed. It's really bad--especially for the hardest workers.

There is no such thing as truly unlimited PTO, as companies will always have practical limitations. What is real is no payout or accrual of sick or vacation time when leaving or retiring.

like

Yes this

like

It also means if someone resigns they don’t have to pay out any vacation time, because you don’t have a set amount in your time.

like

I think this was why unlimited PTO was created. California employees don’t lose vacation days that aren’t used, so some employees could get a year or more payout by accumulating vacation over many years.

like

Yeah, unlimited PTO always sounds great on paper, but in reality, it usually just means people take less time off. No clear guidelines, pressure to “prove” you’re not slacking—it’s been a mess in my experience. Structured PTO at least guarantees people actually use their time. Definitely worth pushing back on this one.

It won’t matter.

Why is everyone leaving there ?

like

Leadership turnover and there are regular layoffs

like

Sounds like already a very toxic work environment if you’re overworking your good people to not take enough time off already ;) In such case, fixed PTO or unlimited PTO is not the problem…

like

I wanna apply 😂 but seriously. Totally agree with you.

I have a possible opportunity at Protiviti. Coming from big4 and wondering if Protiviti has fairly similar perks. I’ve read the 2022 benefits guide and it gave a oddly low PTO count of 16 days. Is this true and what about a holiday disconnect in the December time period? Are there any other hidden perks that are awesome? Already heard WLB is better and the culture, but I feel like I’ve gotta find that out first hand. Protiviti

So annoyed,

So my work has unlimited PTO -global company. I'm based in uk and line manager is in USA. he said I'm taking to much time off and has brought it up with upper management. I have taken in total to date 22 days with 8 (4 include an operation) more to go. My performance is above target. I just feel blindsided.
