Sometimes it really do be like that :( luckily, work partnerships don’t have to be forever!
Thankfully!! 🙏 I’ve worked with tons of ADs, many who were amazing and some who’ve become lifelong friends. This one is by far the laziest and most incompetent. Like, if you have to be either lazy or stupid just pick ONE. You can’t be both omg 💀
Get out of the partnership as soon as possible. Start documenting instances where her actions directly impact your teams work, and have a discussion with your bosses.
In this instance, unfortunately, you have to be selfish. You don’t want to delay progress in your career because another person isn’t good at their job. I recently wasted a year trying to get a partnership to work and it most likely cost me a promotion. Don’t wait, be proactive is something is not working.
Yup! I’ve dragged her across the finish line of multiple projects, trying to be positive and force a partnership that wasn’t working. After a while realized I can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped and I went to my higher ups to get creatively divorced. It ended amicably and we were separated naturally, she’s too inane to realize it was manufactured lol. But unfortunately back together for a project. If my new CDs(who don’t have context of the situation) are trying to put us together I’ll put a stop to it for sure.
I'm sorry this is happening to you! It is hard having a shitty partner but it's harder having to navigate a delicate situation without burning bridges. Someone in this thread mentioned being proactive outside the agency (programs, bringing proactive ideas, organizing events for the agency, going to networking events, etc ) and literally that is the only thing that worked for me when I was in a similar situation.
👋 if you wanna new one I'm open
I’m working part of the time with another art director who is smart, finds images for the deck, actually comps images to better sell through our ideas, essentially…does their job?? We get along super well and work great together, it’s sadly been such a breath of fresh air. But this aforementioned AD is a straight up fart director.
