Start applying for new jobs, get a raise, and never engage with this loser again.
💯
I’d ask once for her to pay you back. Who knows, maybe she thought it was pretty obvious that you knew there was likely no way you’d see that money again. And after you ask once, I’d just let it go. And lesson learned.
Very helpful advice! Thank you both. I knew this on the phone and felt it in my gut that I shouldn’t but I struggle with boundary setting and people pleasing especially when that friend/work relationship gets blurred. It might be something I have to just let go but I agree I should at least ask once.

To be honest, I would start applying to new jobs. When you have an offer report it to ethics. So much can go wrong here.
Your manager used her role of power to pressure you for money. Giving her money is a conflict of interest in her fiduciary duty to the company. You will be leaving because of her nonsense.
I wouldn’t let one person and $50 stand in the way of the career that you want. You’ve learned not to lend money you hope to ever see again. Don’t make that mistake again. Or if she’s really a good person and a good manager fallen on unusual tough times, maybe it wasn’t a mistake to help her. Though the fact you only have $100 in your bank account makes me wonder if this is really a good career path, but of course I don’t know anything about your expenses or financial situation, so I will assume you have a good plan for the future. But if you’re really happy at this company, I wouldn’t run away from it because of her.
I’ve actually never heard of this situation, that’s wild
Your manager should be asking the company for an advance, not you for a loan.
This 👏

The only way
LOL thank you for this

You just paid $50 to remove a leech from your life. That’s an easy choice.
Tell her that interest’s been building up!!! It’s now at $150👍🏼
I like the way you think 😎
There’s no way in hell

This post is insane. Your manager should feel ashamed of herself, and honestly, this should get reported to whoever acts as HR at your company. Don’t loan out money again - but also, if she asks again, you can easily shut this down by saying “this conversation is making me uncomfortable. Let’s not talk about our personal financial situations again.”
I’d also worry about your own pay increase - maybe document it somehow that you loaned her money, and if she doesn’t go to bat for you, I’d consider bringing your documentation to the CEO and say that you feel uncomfortable discussing salary increases with her given her lack of boundaries with you. I’m worried someone with this extreme lack of common sense and professionalism is in charge of your raise.

I never lend money for this exact reason. I do however give money frequently.
That way there’s no bitterness if it doesn’t come back
As a manager, I would lend my team money. Not once would I ask for it or even think of asking for it
