Need help getting tested/diagnosis. I have Kaiser insurance and the protocols for testing involve not having an anxiety attack for 6 months before they can test me. This is impossible because I have an anxiety diagnoses too! I don’t know what to do because my ADHD symptoms are getting worse and affecting my work.

Find a therapist and or a psychiatrist who accepts Kaiser and get diagnosed through them. Kaiser is pretty damn bad for mental health services so you have to leverage an affiliate.

Thank you for the advice. I didn’t know I could do that.

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with the insurance. You'd do better to do private pay. Psychiatrist who specializes in testing for adhd and autism would be your best option.

I haven't heard of the protocols you mentioned though.

like

Huh? I’ve never heard of such a requirement. How could they even vet that? Makes no sense. Any place that has a requirement like that is a red flag that they have no idea what they’re doing. I’m not sure what advice to give because my understanding is that Kaiser is an HMO. You can only get care at a Kaiser clinic, right?

Maybe, but ADHD and anxiety are highly comorbid. Having anxiety doesn’t indicate that you don’t have ADHD, so that doesn’t make sense.

I just paid out of pocket to get assessed by a psychologist that specializes in people with ADHD. Once you have the diagnosis then you can submit that to your GP.

I think it was like $100 but did it all online and it was super simple. Would be nice if it wasn’t out of pocket but life has improved a lot since the diagnosis and moreso with meds so benefit definitely outweighed the cost.

Trying to have faith but my recent cycle netted 16 eggs, 8 fertilized and only 2 made it to day 5 for testing. There were 3 others that just didn’t mature. This is my third cycle and I’ve been pretty positive up until today. It’s especially hard to get this news in the middle of a work day. Just tired, still bloated and not feeling all that hopeful as we enter this LONG wait until we get the results next week. I hate feeling like this knowing my chances are getting slimmer by the day.

What types of work accommodations can help people with ADHD? I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. I want better for myself and family but 1. I don't enjoy the same things forever 2. Imposter syndrome and RSD make me believe it's acceptable to start over in new places at low salaries. 3. Typical college won't work for me. 4. I also can't relocate.

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?
