Our latest manager is taking micromanaging to a whole new level. I've seen this kind of thing before, he's going to burn himself out. I kind of wish I could warn him but don't think he'd listen.

That's a tough one...you can try talking to them, giving them specific examples, offering solutions, and being open to feedback. Remember to approach the conversation with a constructive mindset, and avoid getting defensive or confrontational. By communicating your concerns clearly and respectfully, you can help your manager understand the impact of their behavior and work together to find a better way forward.

If he's micromanaging everyone, it's not clear from the post. If she's just micromanaging you, you should either work on building trust or find a new job. Be proactive about that stuff...don't be 5 min late. Ask how often you should send status updates. Usually people micromanage because they don't trust, they don't have enough info, or they're bad managers. If it's the the third thing, you'd see it with everyone.

I think it's sweet that you care about your manager that way. If you have a good working relationship then maybe you could pull him aside for a moment and tell him not to overthink things.

Being micromanaged is very exhausting and irritating, it requires you to kind of check your ego and accept management worthy of someone with less experience. That said, a good boss in every other way, can be a net positive. Just be careful not to fall into the trap of writing off micro-management as an absolute negative.

You can just casually talk to him about it. There is nothing wrong trying to voice out your concern. If he will not not listen, it's okay. You have at least done your part.

He might be trying to prove himself to the hire ups. As a new manager, you want everyone to believe in you and see that you have control over things

Agreed with the above. I worked so hard to get to my managerial position so I was also busy and micromanaging everything when I first started because I felt any downfalls would fall back on me. After a while, i relaxed a bit

Good for you for noticing it at this stage. You should try talking to him. At least you know you did your part.

Why not? Warn him but let him decide what's best for him. It's on him if he's not going to take it seriously.

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??
