Partners, if I’m a mid-career consultant at another firm who is interested in joining your practice, what’s the best way to word a cold email for you to take notice - and an intro call - with me?

At work do you ever describe who you’re dating without using gender specific pronouns just to avoid finding out if a co-worker is going to act weird about it? Lol

How do you guys deal with fin advisers (and others)who cold call twice a day. I have to pick up because it might be a client. They are super pushy. How do you handle without being and A-hole to them?

Currently at MBB. Interested in moving to PE. I have a call coming up with an MD at a UMM/MF — we have a weak connection. How would you approach this call to help my chances for the specific firm? What are some questions to ask?

I use they/them pronouns and I’ll be starting a new job (remotely) in a month. How have you all gone about bringing up your pronouns in meetings, to HR etc ? Were your coworkers accepting?

How do you handle being blamed by the partner for things that are not your fault? Partner emailed a secretary to fix a document. Then 5 hours later just emailed me without the Secretary asking if it was done? It’s killing me I’m constantly apologizing for things like this.

My coworker consistently comes in 30min -1hr late every day. Plus they have the balls to take long 1hr or more lunches AND leave early. Our manager doesn't seem to notice. How do I bring this up?

Any ideas on fun team bonding events/games to improve culture in a new remote tech startup? Very small team with long work hours, we are trying to build a people culture but hard because we can’t see much of peoples personalities through Zoom meetings much.

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? Or is a better approach saying it’s the leadership in general creating a negative and toxic culture? How effective are these conversations really? Trying to assess if there’s any point in bringing this up. Obviously HR works for the company and an employee sharing their thoughts on the unsupportive, cold leaders could bite me in the long run.

I judge the company I work every time they misspell my name even though I’ve corrected it over and over again. It tells me they don’t care and don’t want to make the effort. It’s in my email, my email signature, on my profile, etc. How hard is it to look it up and spell it correctly?!

Any stories of what happened AFTER you had to back out of some work because you were getting overwhelmed with what’s on your plate? I had to tell a partner I couldn’t help him with a training after initially agreeing because I was worn thin between two different deals. I’m fairly new to the firm so am a little concerned this is going to affect me reputationally, but figured it was better than blowing a client-related deadline. Fwiw he was nice about it and his training I think went fine.

Been on a project for 2 weeks and thinking it’s not for me. The manager is kind of rude when I ask for help/direction, but he always says to ask if things are uncertain. He always has this condescending attitude and just keeps telling me that he expects more of someone at my level, C. I just keep feeling anxious that I’m not meeting expectations and feel reluctant to ask for help. Anyone in the same boat?

I’m currently a 5th year senior manager at EY - and the path to PP seems to be an uphill battle with very limited slots available in next few years- primarily because we hired many DAPs last year. 1) which big-4 do you believe has a better retirement model? the unfunded retirement benefits package that pays out after retirement?
2) is it worth switching from one big-4 to another big-4 and having to re-build everything so to speak, if both roles are relatively same but comp is 20% higher? and also possibly joining a bigger practice area...

Up for partnership this year @ a big 4, however I have an offer in hand that doubles my Director salary. Should I take the sure thing or risk going through a vote with a recession looming?
