Keep interviewing and do your best to get other offers on the table with the same or higher salary. This will allow you to negotiate better.
I agree with this. Offers in writing are
best and multiple offers in writing are better!
This may not be popular opinion but there are many other parts of an offer that will add value to your quality of life while being employed at the chosen company, not just salary.
Have you asked them if they're willing to negotiate on comp? That's definitely frustrating - been there. It feels like bait and switch. But it sounds like you have the upper hand since they've admitted they're struggling to find someone and seem to really want you. I'd push back and ask for more.
Massively feels like that, and after being undervalued at my current job, I’m not going to be walking into this again. How are you advertising it at 50 and then want to pay me 45? It’s insulting. I’m thinking to tell the recruiter that I don’t want to hang on for 2 weeks and if it’s a no just to say now, as I have other recruiters getting in touch wanting to put me forward for roles that are better paid. Really what I should do though (and not act out of annoyance) is just go for these other interviews and if they come back with an offer, review then…
