Hi guys,
Could you please tell me which company to join? Considering wlb and learning opportunities as I'm still a fresher. I have recieved offers from tech Mahindra, Deloitte, Brillio, temenos and accolite. Which is better to join for 1.5 years of experience, considering new learning opportunities and wlb. Accolite is paying 100% more than Deloitte.

He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?
I wish I worked in the PC era (pre-cell phone).

I’m waiting for my background check as I accepted an offer for Remote Licensed Insurance Customer Service Rep. While I’m a 1099 for my current role, I still haven’t told them I am leaving for a full time role that can change my life. It’s a small agency, and I’ve gotten close with the director. She’s the employment reference I gave; I’m a nervous that when they receive the call to verify employment, my days will be difficult. I’d hate to be let go before I start with LM. Thoughts? I recently pivoted from WC claims to another dept outside of claims - have you had a chance to actually talk to any underwriters yet? I found that having a quick 1:1 chat really helped me shape my path and get the job once something opened up.
Congrats! Definitely bring it up once you have coaching/developmental sessions with your manager. One thing about claims is that it can be really hard to get out as they tend to give you more and more tasks as you progress - network early and try to secure some UW job shadows :) Good luck!

If you are at a large company you can apply internally. Depending on where you might be able to apply for UW with a year of adjuster experience. Or you may need to look for UWA roles first to gain experience. It just depends on the company, what they require and what type of underwriting the role is for. Different markets require different experience. It’s actually a good idea to start off in claims, and take same time to learn about different industries and figure out what coverages you would want to underwrite. Then look for roles in that specific field.
Thank you for sharing some light! Excellent advice!

Nobody chooses to work in insurance, we all fall into it by accident. But it’s a wonderful career! Claims is tough and it’s not for everyone. Getting into UW is hard but worth it. The easiest path is getting your CPCU. I’d be happy to help you come up with a strategy. Let’s chat: https://calendly.com/tcanas/chatwithtony
I know for the most part they are always looking for experienced underwriters. In the last 10 years I’ve seen 3 trainee underwriter positions whereas in claims there’s been more than 10 trainee adjuster positions.
I’ve interviewed and hired several internal claims handlers to my underwriting team. There’s several useful skills (understanding of form language, managing conflict, communication skills, etc) that make the transition relatively smooth.
Former Underwriter here who now works in Project Management. Best bet is CPCU and look internally. Get a mentor and network, network, network. If you get an interview use the front line underwriting you are doing as an adjuster and cater it to the questions you receive. Plus if you get a case study, never and I mean never say “put the dog down” lol
I started as an underwriting assistant and moved up to an underwriting position. The national alliance website is a good resource for designations. I got the CISR and would like CIC or CPCU. Most of the time your company will pay for it.
