I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.
Could anyone kindly tell me about the Investment Management and Private Equity Audit Group at Deloitte? 1. Work Life Balance (Is it worst than the ordinary Big 4 WLB?) 2. Is it an entirely different audit from commercial/retail audits (think account balances etc.) 3. Difficult to learn how to audit clients in this industry without prior experience in the industry?(been doing commercial audits for 3 years) 4. Are there relatively good exit opportunities for this audit group? Deloitte PwC EY

Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

I didn’t realize there is a transition or a difference. I have been both.

SSE1, the difference comes from whether you are in a Post or Pre sales role.
SE would be a sales engineer, who would be involved with performing demos, responding to RFPs, answering questions, and initial requirements gathering. This would happen before the contract is signed.
SA would come in after the contract is signed (or at least proposed), and take those initial requirements to turn them into a working solution that can actually be implemented. Additionally, putting together project artifacts is generally key in the role.
Of course, it depends on the company and their specific naming conventions/role responsibilities, but if you had to differentiate the two roles, this would be it.
OP, I would say technical skills are key here. You need to be able to show that you know the technology/product in depth, and are able to put together project artifacts (such as solutions design, SOW) that are generally required in the SA role. Knowing industry standards would also be quite helpful since “consulting” the client on how exactly they should implement is something that often happens in the role.
Just do it. Make sure your customers are successful. All will be well.
