I experienced this with a parent. The first thing is to get an official medical diagnosis to understand what’s going on. If it’s Alzheimer’s or Dementia, it’s going to get worse, but medication could slow the progression. At some point, you will need the assistance of a home health aide. Speak with your other parent and siblings and get paperwork and finances in order. Someone will need to become power of attorney. My recommendation is one person unless the paperwork specifically indicates each can act independently. Another tip is for someone to become a joint member on the bank account. This will allow easy access when/if needed. Alzheimer’s and Dementia rapidly progresses so you want to handle things while your parent is still of sound mind. Sending prayers your way.
It’s hard, my grandpa had dementia and only when all siblings got together and confronted the issue together did it get resolved. Might be out of context but the more support or recognition might help the person realize their current state.
Also take things one moment at a time because moods change. Understand that it’s the disease and not your parent so be patient and understanding.
Give my other parent support but this environment is beginning to take a toll. It’s just hard bc that’s family at the end of the day and you wish there was more you could do or better ways to handle arguments etc. but sometimes I just don’t know what to do.
