What are the best sources / books to learn stock trading or more sophisticated investing? I’ve only been putting my $ in S&P and Intelligent Portfolio, but want to grow my $ more. Thanks!

There are lots of books out there to help teach you techniques around stock picking, trading options, etc. However, even after reading all those books, you’ll have worse that a coin flip chance at consistently beating the S&P. Everyone wants to beat it, and no more than can be explained by probability do beat it (including very experienced fund managers). I can tell you from personal experience, you’re better off sticking with index funds.

Hi everyone! I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card right now. I want to upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

I’ve heard it’s better to downgrade the Chase Preferred card to a Freedom Unlimited card and then apply for the Reserve card.

I have about 150k points on my Preferred card — if I downgrade to the freedom unlimited card will I get to keep my points? Will my points be worth the same for travel/pay yourself back? (I think it’s 25% more)

Any downsides/done this recently?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

I’m a new CSM (9 months) and I work at a company that doesn’t invest much in its CSM team. I’ve been struggling because as time goes on I feel more and more like a token hire. We have no play book/structure, no CSM tool and I’m current organizing all 95 of my clients on spreadsheets while also handling presales trials with a salary under 50k.

Long story short: I’m searching for mentorship or to be pointed in the direction of a good course so I can help the clients I do have while I’m here

What's better for FIRE, high paying job for fewer years or lower paying job for longer.

For example, in theory is it better to do a $100k job for 30 years or a $300k job for 10 years or a $500k job for 6 years?

Higher income means higher % in taxes but it also gives you a chance to invest more earlier.

This sounds like a crazy question, but if you have 1MM in working capital invested in the markets at 35 and you are looking at spending 150-200k in retirement. 4-5MM target number.

All of my models say you would no longer need save, but just finance your lifestyle until 60. Does that math check out?

Does anyone else struggle with family that is resentful of your financial resources? I grew up middle class and my mom, brother and Sister-in-law frequently make passive aggressive comments. I travel frequently but otherwise live a very unflaunty lifestyle (I.e., I don’t own a car, rent a two-bedroom apartment). Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

So Roth > regular when you’re in a low tax bracket currently. Right?

What if I plan to move from, say, NY -> Miami in a few years (permanently)? 10% difference in state / city level taxes changed the Roth calculus, right? So pretty much always regular when in a high tax state and retiring in florida?

Where do I begin figuring out the actual execution of retiring? e.g if net worth is > 4mm at age 35, how would one figure out what FIRE lifestyle would be now versus coasting with an income for a few more years? I realize this is a pretty dumb question.

New to investing. I want to open a Roth IRA and put 3000$ in to buy VTSAX. My plan after that is to contribute 200- 300$ at the end of each month. Is that how you guys do it? Am I understanding this correctly?

Starting at FAANG in a week and have options of mega backdoor.

My plan is to convert RSUs to cash at every paycheck, contribute each paycheck into post tax 401k up to annual 38k limit, in-plan convert to Roth 401k, and buy back the shares in Roth 401k for tax free growth.

Seems like this is the best tax advantaged option (at least on the first 38k of RSUs every year).

Also get $2k HSA funded by company every year for free -> convert?
Also will have 2k HSA
