Which matters more? Activity or revenue?
Generally speaking, it’s based on company scale/size, staff management philosophy, and title structure:
1) Manager to Director of Sales = manage a team of 5-8 account execs in a relatively focused geo area (eg, Bay Area, SoCal, TOLA, NY/NJ, etc), or industry vertical (eg, Finance, CPG, Telecom, etc). It gets difficult to effectively manage above 8. To meet productivity metrics, acct exec quotas might be $1M/yr at smaller companies, or >$10M/yr at larger companies.
2) Director to VP of Sales = manage a team of 5-8 Sales Managers, spanning across multiple geo areas (eg West, Midwest, South, East) or multiple verticals.
Top responsibility is to generate revenue in your own territory assigned to your team . Coach and Mentor your teams for any anchoring issues and ensure that your bottom sales or margins are good
